Vigilia Park - Terrible Park
This Hotel by RCI standards has to be the worst experience we have ever had.
The security in the hotel complex was non-existent.
The hotel is based inside a Shopping Centre where there was nothing to prevent members of the public entering and using the facilities or of theft of personal belongings left by the sun-beds whilst in the poolThe Reception is at the very end of the shopping centre where we booked in on arrival but their English is very poor and we had difficulty in making them understand what we meant.
To the left of the Reception is the entrance to the main Pool area and restaurant. This area was open to the public and there was no security to prevent members of the public entering this area and using the facilities or theft of valuables. There is a lift and Staircase to the right of the Reception for access to the apartments and roof top pool area but again this was open to the public and there was nothing to prevent members of the public accessing the apartments or roof top pool area (Pool, Mini Golf and Pool Bar). The apartment was very clean and modern but the bedroom window overlooked the shopping centre and we had difficulty getting to sleep at night due to the noise from the shopping centre below.
The roof top pool area was very clean but very small with only about 15 sun-beds which were squashed together that tightly that there was no room to move between them not even to get on the sun-beds. You had to approach the sun-bed from the bottom and climb on from the endThe morning after we arrived we went to the restaurant only to find the buffet style breakfast was cold and we could not eat it.
We arrived at the resort at 6.00pm on the Friday but by 10.00am the next day we had made arrangements at our expense to move to another hotel as we did not feel safe and felt there was no way we could not spend a week in this resort..
We have been with RCI for many years and had many enjoyable holidays but we have never had such a mismatch resort as this one.
The resort is in a very mountainous area so any older people or people with walking difficulties will experience great difficulty getting about as the roads and pathways are very steep.
Our overall view of this hotel was not even worthy of a 1 star rating.
The worst
It was a nightmare, don’t go there. They gave us old rooms, which were just awful, kids were crying that do we need to stay here the whole week.
The reception wasn’t understanding at all situation, but thank god for the phone service at RCI helped and we were able to change the hotel next day.
It was one of the worst nights ever in this Vigilia Park. Cannot recommend this to anyone!!!
cheap and cheerful
we stumbled across Vigilia park by accident really and is somewhere we usually wouldn’t go to be honest, we usually go high end all inclusive and let companies do it all for us
Anyway, after a bad experience with the first choice that didn’t get resolved we thought we would look for a cheeky cheap week away for Easter.
So, I asked my brother who has a couple of timeshares if there was a swap he could go anywhere and this was the only one available so we booked.
When we got to the Vigilia park I thought what have we done, where are we and when we entered our apartment I though oh no , this is gonna be bad this looks as basic as it gets and everything looks tired.
I nearly turned around and said let’s look for something else BUT a deep breath and an OK we can do this from my wife and we decided to give it a go.
All I can say is it was a great decision, yes stuff was old and bashed and worn out in the apartment but I found out we were on the roadside that is about to be refurbished but everything was clean, the bath shower had hot water running out of it the beds were put me up beds and very uncomfortable but ok it was a base .
NOW for the good stuff
The staff here work non stop to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
The pool on the 4th floor is very good lots of sunbeds very private and quiet.
The bar up there made it for us especially the workers they were all kind and pleasant, Isabella and Carolina just 2 of an excellent bunch, can’t remember the mans name up there but he saw us waiting to leave and went out of his way to shake each one of our hands and wish us safe travels .
4pm-5pm is happy hour up there which is good well it was for me lol .
They do food up there we mainly had toasted sandwiches and ice creams but saw others with pasta dishes that looked nice, everywhere behind that bar was spotlessly clean.
Downstairs on the ground floor there are shops as the apartments are built on top and there is a local place its nearest the reception that does spit roast chicken and duck and racks of lamb, was very cheap and very good , we went out to different bars and restaurants and was surprised how cheap the area as a whole was as its not really that tourist .
The beach if you like beaches were nearby with black sand but not very big or good, to be honest, but Vigilia is nearby.
Vigilia has stunning views from the roof top and the sun seemed to never go down.
We had a really good week here and are shocked really how good a time we actually had at a back to basics place.
I think we may be back one day we had that good of a time and the people are so friendly, thank you Vigilia park
vigilia park was okay
Firstly id like to point out that we usually stay in another hotel but it was fully booked so we thought we would give this a go. Myself and my wife along with her parents arrived here for 2 weeks on the 8th of may. The hotel is going through some renovations and we were delighted when we learned we were in two of the newly refurbished rooms. Upon entering we were stunned by the views out over the sea looking out onto La Gomera and the Gigantes cliffs. The rooms were clean and modern with a mezzanine bedroom which also has a window so you can enjoy the views from the second you open your eyes.
The Vigilia does have a fatal flaw, however, which I probably should have seen when booking and that is the lack of air conditioning. There isn’t a single room in the complex that is equipped with aircon and the ceiling fan in each room only gives the smallest of relief from the unrelating may heat (20+ at midnight) and only when you are directly below it, this means sleeping on the sofa bed instead of the mezzanine in my father inlaws case and in my case actually sleeping outside on the balcony on two nights of the first week. After day seven I finally gave in and after considering flying home found another local hotel equipped with aircon on booking.com and paid the extra 270euros (which was very cheap) for the switch. Overall the Vigilia is a nice clean pleasant place to stay and if it ever installs aircon I will be back but until then ill be returning to either of the 2 other hotels.
AVOID at all costs.
Vigilia Park is situated at one end of a Shopping Mall, Went on an RCI exchange-On arrival was greeted by receptionist wanting-60e deposit+10e for electric+25e for safe+30e for Wi-Fi+10e for tele remote.
On getting to our room we were upset to see walls covered in black scuff marks-incomplete cutlery-kitchen & wardrobe doors falling off-lights not working-no windows in the apartment or bedroom-no view unless you count a back street garage & empty shops, minuscule balcony.
Came on Ryan-Air so wanted to use their computer to print off return boarding pass-not working-receptionist couldn’t print them for us so had to find a local internet café to do it…Helpful NOT.
Vomit on walkway not cleaned up all week.
Pigeons keep landing on the balcony depositing their crap etc. Some people had been placed in refurbished rooms hence some reviews on here but they wouldn’t move us so we were stuck in this dump. If you are thinking of booking here don’t pay more than 20e a room because you may get what we did.
In my view, best pay a bit more & get something a bit more than a cell.
