Still ok, but not fab. Standards have slipped, sadly.
We as a family have been visiting Los Gigantes for 30 years.
In more recent times, this past decade, we have frequented The Harbour Club for evening meals for the high quality food, great atmosphere & friendly staff.
This year we took a walk down-admittedly quite late & were abrasively told, well shouted “AT LEAST AN HOUR WAIT FOR YOUR FOOD. At LEAST! We’re VERY BUSY!”
Knowing it was late (past 9pm) & this was our best chance we agreed to take a seat.We did wait over an hour as previously told & this was with us reminding staff (after 45/minutes we were ready to order) but when the food arrived it was delicious, hot & very filling. You certainly get what you expect if you arrive hungry!
Sadly a VERY limited menu nowadays compared to previous visits.
Gavin Nicholas was the ‘entertainment’ that evening, which we think (bizarrely) contributed towards the business of the place that eve. We left feeling very full & satisfied at that.
We visited a week later on a Sunday to be seated much more promptly, but handed a 1 page menu once again, entitled ‘Sunday menu’ this was disappointing but most of us (7 in the group) plumped for a roast which was ok. Not the best in the area, but hot & filling.
Sadly the experience of tasting the food was overshadowed by a couple on the next table smoking away like chimneys. They knew we were upset about this too, but continued to puff away-clouds of smoke floating in front of my Husband’s chewing face-until they’d smoked it down to the stub. Nice.
Maybe Harbour Club could introduce a smoking area for these types of people? Or are they too ‘busy’?
Hmmm, not sure we’ll rush back there on our next visit to Los Gigantes, sadly
Should have read trip advisor reviews first !
We are Devon guest house owners and always consult reviews first before selecting a resort.
We did,nt this time so only have our selves to blame, because this resort was our worst experience in many years.
Firstly the resort management will not reply to this review which we try to write in a constructive manner.
You will note that they thank the client who writes complimentary comments, but they ignore ones like this.
This speaks volumes of their professional approach,as all feedback is valuable and worthy of response.
The person who emailed us when we were booking, was very helpful but as soon as we arrived and paid for our months stay,we didn’t see or hear from her again.
This resort is for the kind of person who enjoyed sing a long a max type of music which is played live every night and the noise in our apartment was unbearable.
I purchased ear plugs to drown out this horrible music.
But we live in a democracy and the resident guest seem to enjoy this music so I have to accept that my taste is iin the minority and must accept the sing alone music which they play each night.
I was just hoping for some jazz or local Canarian music or even some R&B or Spanish guitar, but alas this was not available.
This resort was an 80 s timeshare resort and having worked in many over the years i was hoping for better standards of accommodation.
Here is a concise list of faults that we felt the potential client might be interesting in hearing.
1.the kitchen has no work tops to prepare food on,it was impossible to cook properly because there was an oven, sinkµ wave but no surface to work on.
2.the sofa bed had thin seats and very large back cushions which make for an uncomfortable seating, coupled with the hardest cushions I have ever experienced, they are like rock.
3.the furnishings and curtains are dark and unattractive .
The balcony has good views but there is no privacy as each balcony looks onto the other next door.
The bedrooms again are dreary and very old fashioned and the mattress protector has a plastic lining which is very noisy.
4.the bathroom has a toilet in nbr 15that continues to run when one flushes it took me two weeks to get the problem resolved. I was advised firstly to hold the button down for 5 seconds but that didn’t work, then I was advised to push the back of the toilet but that did,nt work either.eventuall their maintenance man fixed the ball cock but it took two weeks to get the problem corrected.
6.same applied with the bedroom wall switch controlling fan a ceiling light which fell into the wall when I tried to switch the light on.it took over a week to get that fixed. This are no end of things right with this resort, but I,m sure the readied will understand that it,s not what one would expect of a timeshare resort .
Avoid this place at all costs and I have learnt my lesson and will always read trip advisor reviews in the future so that I avoid horrible resorts like the harbour club Los gigantes.
Must end on a positive note and state that John in reception was first class.
Disappointing
Stayed at this hotel in June. We booked through TUI so we stayed in the ‘phrase 2’ area which is about a 5 minute walk from the main hotel, restaurant and swimming pool. The room was modern and nice but the view from the balcony was a brick wall.
Even though they recommend not going to the TUI morning greeting, I would still go anyway because they offer some really.good trips.
Overall I would not recommend staying at this hotel.
Never again
This place has a great location for watching the sunset which at this time of year is about 6.00pm. it also offers Happy Hour from 4.00pm with reduced priced drinks but not half price and limited selection. nevertheless we decided to stay and enjoy the sunset.
However that was not to be as it would appear that at 6.00pm the Harbour club becomes the Wine Bar which apparently is nothing to do with Harbour Club.
So close to 6.00pm a bell rings and there is a mass of frantic activity as furniture is moved around by staff, a stage is being set up . There was no explanation as to what was happening or why we were asked to finish our drinks and move. the atmosphere was bizarre almost like an evacuation! consequently with all this activity we missed the gorgeous sunset and I left my cava and the olives both that were not in the scope of Happy Hour .
It was such a disappointment especially as we were not informed when we made our order that at 6.00 everything changes. we felt totally misled and left very unhappy. We got no apology or explanation as to what was happening.
It was only after the event that I became aware of this arrangement between the 2 establishments. Such a shame
