Dreadful apartments
We booked this hotel through our timeshare and I was slightly apprehensive as I read previous reviews but Malta is somewhere we’ve wanted to visit for quite some time so we decided to take the plunge. Now I wish we hadn’t!
We booked an extra night at a cost of €236 to prolong our holiday by an extra day and it was DEFINITELY not worth it. I’ve just looked now on booking.com and noticed that it is actually only £85 through them and still not sure it’s actually worth the money.
I had emailed the hotel a few days before our arrival to ask if we could have a sea view and we would pay extra. They said that they couldn’t guarantee this as they were fully booked.
Our apartment was suitable for a maximum of 6 people. It was a tiny apartment and there was a small round table in the kitchen/dining room/third bedroom/living area which we were supposed to eat off which could barely fit three people round and definitely not suitable for 5 or 6. The apartment only had one source of light which was patio doors in the back bedroom. This led out onto a balcony right next to a busy main road and as we were on the ground floor the roar of lorries and people walking past meant we couldn’t use the balcony or eat out there at all. As in previous reviews, there was also damp in the bedroom and the air conditioning was so noisy it was hard to sleep. When I asked to be moved they said the hotel was full. This was completely untrue as the two apartments next door to us and one down the corridor were empty for our whole visit. There was even a piece of paper in our room that said we can upgrade at extra cost ( see attached)
On the second night of our holiday, we bought pizzas and chips and put them in the oven. Halfway through cooking the oven stopped working. As it was after 8 pm the maintenance people had gone home and we were given the key to the next-door apartment to cook our food in. The next day the maintenance man came and ‘fixed’ the oven. Two days later tried to cook again, the same thing happened. Given the key to another apartment down the corridor to cook. The same story next day cooker apparently fixed but the same thing happened that night. Given the key to another apartment but this time I asked the receptionist to ask the manager to contact me as it was becoming ridiculous and I felt some sort of compensation was warranted. We never heard anything from the manager and just went out for the remaining nights as it was too much grief to keep cooking in another apartment and eating on our own on our tiny table!
All in all the hotel was a big disappointment. We would return to Malta in the future as there is lots to see and do and it is a beautiful island but would never return to this hotel. It certainly does not live up to its 4-star status.

Rude and arrogant staff
On Friday 30th August we decided to go for a day by the pool choosing Sunny Coast Lido.
Pool was not crowded and relaxing. So far so good. At lunchtime we went to eat at their restaurant Munch & Brunch. I ordered a tuna wrap, my wife a pork wrap and a blt sandwich for my son. Restaurant was 1/4 full, four to five tables including us.
We placed the order at 1355 and waited till 1435, a good 40 minutes but to no avail. When I saw that this was getting too far I went over the counter to vent my disapproval to the staff but what i got was a very arrogant reply.
One of the waitresses told me that I have to wait. I replied wait for more than 40 mins for wraps and a sandwich!! It was clear that people who came after us ate before us. This was confirmed by one of the waitresses who at one point came to check our table no and what we ordered.
To top it all the kitchen staff participated in this altercation stating that they were very busy. One of them also tried to be aggressive but was held by his colleagues. Will never go to this restaurant again owing to the rude and arrogant staff.
A big disappointment
Expecting a great time at this 4-star hotel for the nine nights we intended to stay, we got miserably disappointed.
Though the flat was spacious we could not really appreciate the shabby dark brown old furniture, the noise from the building area just under our balcony from 07 – 20, the noise from the ancient air condition (like being on an aircrafts engines 24/7), the cracked toilet chair, an impossible to open or close sliding door to the balcony, windows impossible to lock and a poor cleaning service.
The pool area could only be got into by a walk crossing a street and the great ocean view from the small balcony could only be enjoyed in the evenings after the daily finishing of the builders at 1900 or 2000 hours.
Loads of works going on around the place
Loads of works going on around the place (noise and mess) and it sure has seen better days as a hotel / timeshare complex.
The rooms were okay, but were dated / had seen better days. The upgrade to a sea view really was not worth the effort as 90% of the view was the back of another building.
The staff were on the friendly side of stern / not very welcoming at all, but they were helpful if asked anything.
The food in the restaurant was good and good value, but too large portions and the staff did not seem to care there either.
Not the worst place that I have ever stayed, but I would not go back.
Worst Service EVER
Having booked, and paid extra for a sea view, I emailed the hotel as this was not on my confirmation , I received and email response that was rather blunt. Should have been a give away to the service I received on arrival.
On arrival the gentleman on reception could not find our booking even though I had a printout of it, however he found us a nice sea view room, happy with this we went down and paid as requested.
The next morning I received a phone call from reception ( the very same blunt email lady) to say that we could not have that room ( it was someones timeshare and they would be arriving the next day) and we would have to move and to come down and collect the keys.
When I went down she informed me she did not have my reservation as if this was my fault, wouldn’t even look at my paperwork and could not have been more rude. I took the keys and was horrified to find the room she offered didn’t even have a window, and the bedroom ” balcony” couldn’t have fitted 2 of me ( I’m a size 8) and this looked down onto some kind of roof and well of machinery. I refused this room, to which I came under a barrage of abuse from the reception staff who were still blaming me and acting as if they were doing me a favour. All this time I was trying to stay calm and polite, I eventually agreed to take a room facing the road, the noise was hell and I was refused any of my money back for the sea view I paid for.
Never, ever, have I received such poor treatment. I wouldn’t stay here again for free.
However, if you are ever passing, the lovely little restaurant next door is great, great food and the owners are so nice, the lady gave us lots of info and history about the places we were going to visit and general chat about Malta. She was a gem.

My parents have a timeshare at the Sunnycoast and were one of the first guest when it opened, so as a family we have been staying here on and off for 30 years. The picture shown on here is not typical of all rooms.
Floors 5 and 6 have been refurbished but unfortunately the bottom floors are very dull and dated and not nice.
We have a 2 bedroom apartment, which sleeps 6 people. The sofa turns into a bed which is so old and uncomfortable I would let a dog lie on it and it’s not been upgraded for many years. The door to the balcony unfortunately is situated in the twin bedroom which is totally ridiculous as if someone is in bed no one else can use the balcony. The entertainment is terrible and if you want a quite night on the balcony it’s impossible.
You’ve also got the noise from the bar next door.
The cleanliness of the rooms is not much good either, the bath is yellow and has not been changed for many many years. If you want to use the pool then make sure you get there early as the locals get there and take over the place.
There are signs saying you cannot take your own food and drink in to the pool area, this does not apply to the locals they blatantly take big cool bags full of food and drink and are not challenged over it, but as the pool bar prices are very expensive I can understand why they do it. If you are a guest and you do this you will get told off.
The pool is so small it gets overcrowded with local children running around screaming and jumping In the pool even there are signs saying it’s not allowed, again this is overlooked.
It’s only because there is a few years left on the timeshare that we stay there.
We do wonder where the money we pay on maintenance goes, it’s certainly not on upgrading the rooms.
Malta is a beautiful place and over the years we have met lovely people and made life long friends but the Sunnycoast isn’t somewhere I would recommend to anyone I like
