Star Island Resort
Front desk rep Benita was expedient and friendly.
The condo was available before the typical check-in time.
I booked directly with Star Island using the Facebook Exclusive promotion.
There was a reduced room rate and $100 off 2 Adult 4 day passes for Universal Orlando. When I went to redeem the voucher Greg from the Wyndham promotions desk stated that they do not honor the voucher and to check with the entertainment concierge.
The entertainment concierge informed me that his company no long has this particular deal. The end result was that I received a voucher from the front desk that was invalid and I purchased my attraction tickets from another resort. Star Island falsely advertised this promotional package and did not resolve to make it right.
The condo was decent, however, more initiative could be applied toward the upkeep and cleaning of the condo. The toilet had not been cleaned from the prior guest.
There was hair in the shower and bathroom sink.
The carpets needed to be vacuumed. I believe it would be a good idea if this resort kept a manual or stick vacuum broom in the condo. There were not any screens on the patio doors. You risk bugs in the condo if you leave the doors open.
The patio furniture was of poor quality. It consisted of a plastic table and chairs.
There is a hot tub in the 3 bedroom condo, however, the hot water was in short supply. I was only able to fill the tub a fourth of the way up before the hot water ran cold.
These condos are decent and a step up from some hotel rooms. Would I stay here again? Absolutely not. I have stayed at several resorts in this area such as Mystic Dunes, Westgate Town Center and Westgate Vacation Villas. The other resorts outshine Star Island.
Star Island
This resort has some good things to offer.
The deli/market onsite was excellent and the spa was great! I had called ahead to the resort to let them know that I was travelling with my elderly mom who is 84 and doesn’t see well so we were hoping for a first floor unit near the pool because all she does is lay and swim all day everyday.
They did get me a first floor unit, somewhat close.
The room was less than.
The microwave was so high up on the wall we could barely reach it. The cupboards were so high we could not reach the dishes inside, I had to climb on counter to reach. The shower was so high my mom had to sit and swing legs to try to get in.
A pipe burst in our room which is understandable as things happen. It happened to break the night before we were leaving so we had to relocate to another room. This happened at 11:45 pm with no help from resort or employees.
They had us pack up and haul our stuff to another building, this is unacceptable with an elderly person. I did what I could and hurt my back in the process. We got settled in the new room and I called front desk to get an extra hour on our check out and was told NO! Nothing offered for the inconvenience, no help moving, totally unacceptable.
We will not be back!
Too old not upgrade shabby & loud
Unfortunately, that will be our last time staying at Star Island -4 years ago it was great! It has not been upkept. The clientele was loud and rowdy. The trash in the hallway was overflowing. It’s more of a party crowd than a family crowd. I don’t feel safe. Time to look for a more family-friendly resort.
Worst Vacation EVER
Upon arrival, the customer service representatives at the desk were poor and not friendly. For a resort, I expect a certain level of interaction such as a ” WELCOME TO STAR ISLAND” but what I got instead was a greeting from the desk clerk saying “NEXT”. VERY DISAPPOINTING but things went downhill from there the rooms were dated like 1980’s Golden Girl Vibe and I just couldn’t recover from the noise coming from the folks behind the lockout door. All I can say is NEVER AGAIN…
Horrible horrible horrible
Upon check in we told them uninterested in the showcase preview (timeshare tour) they called our room multiple times a day for 5 days. When I told them to stop bothering us. The girl got rude. Talked to the supervisor and was assured he would handle it. The next morning at 9 am phone starts ringing. We still aren’t interested. Finally went to the front desk and spoke with star island supervisor and Wyndham manager together. Finally, phone calls stopped!! I have never been harassed like that and will never return
