WAKE UP MANAGEMENT
As Marriott Vacation Owners we were excited to spend 12 days in Aruba for the first time. We knew about the lobby renovation and pool closure/renovation but that did bother us since we were assured that arrangements had been made to accommodate guests at other facilities including the Surf Club and Marriott Stellaris Hotel.
Management’s “accommodation” was to frustrate and confuse guests and apparently, based on the rude treatment I encountered at both the Surf Club and hotel towel huts demonstrated that staff did not receive the “customer service” memo.
Guests that wished to use the Surf Club pools were required to put your name on a list each day before 12:00 if you wanted access to the Surf Club the next day. Okay, I did that and picked up passes each day. I followed the instructions given and went to the Surf Club towel hut. The male attendant rudely asked for my pass and told me I could only have 1 towel but he would make an “exception” this time and give me 2. How embarrassing and disrespectful especially when Surf Club guests (identified by their wrist bands) were given all the towels they requested. I did not respond and left to find a chair. The sad part is that this towel attendant exhibited the same rude behavior the next day so I left with no towels. I felt unwelcome and disrespected. Not the way to treat a guest at any Marriott facility.
Later seeking information, My husband and I asked about access to the hotel pools. We were told by the Ocean Club lobby staff that we were not permitted to go to the hotel’s adult pool at all…okay… but the hotel pool was open with no passes required. Great!
Well, after 4 days enjoying the beauty of the pool and ocean and receiving great service from Naomi (pool attendant), who previously provided towels, I made the mistake of going to the hotel towel hut myself. BIG MISTAKE! The woman at the hotel towel hut was as rude as the man at the Surf Club and when I gave her my room number said that I had to bring my own towels? What? She said I had to get towels from the Ocean Club but would make an “exception” today but I better have my “own” towels tomorrow.
What a mess – it was upsetting and disappointing. I know it’s just towels but it’s not the fault of guests that the pool is being renovated. When confronted with rude behavior, it dampens your vacation. What happened to being gracious to guests that are being inconvenienced? The lack of communication is astounding and it seems as if the properties (management) are not communicating well with employees or guests. Guests were confused and frustrated. Management needs to get a handle on this – the lobby is being renovated now and the villas will be renovated beginning in July 2019.
We think we will choose another destination next year. Not in a hurry to go back to Aruba. Honestly, there are great people working hard to make your stay wonderful but a few “rude and nasty” people ruin all of their efforts.

Very unhappy
Not happy at all with the Marriott Ocean Club.
We have been a Marriott vacation club owner for many years and have never experienced anything like we have for this past week.
Our room was on a floor that they were renovating and we had to walk through debris all over the floor as well as hazardous situations that you could walk into when going down a hall way if you were not paying attention.
I am outraged that they put us on a floor that there were renovations are going on and expect you to be subject to this on your vacation.
This is totally not the Marriott way. As a titanium elite member this is not acceptable.
Follow up response from Marriott
Out of frustration I posted a view of the activity outside my room at 1 am which continued for hours.
My room was across from the gym at the stallirus. I had laundry trucks coming for 45 minutes with their diesel engine left running while worker went inside.
Numerous other trucks all night which echo through the night. After my post manage 4 days later offered me a handicap room.
They reached out to me through email at home 150 dollar credit. Are you kidding me? What an insult.
My vacation was ruined with lack of sleep. I felt like I had no say. This was no my first time stating at the Marriot ocean. I will say I stayed at the Holiday Inn 3days late and at the Hyatt. I shared my pictures when they and they said they corrected laundry ddelivery years ago.
In March I stayed at the Barcelo with my husband and son in a 2 bedroom. They have a great lounge entertainment in the evening.
I’m writing this while at flamingo beach which is part of the Renaissance Hotel.
The management attitude experience force me to find a place when my business is valued.
I will be taking my 90 year old mother here in February instead of the Marriot. You spend
Ocean view rooms - total misdescription
Arrived to be told we have been assigned the last room available – giving a view of a dusty piece of scrubland where the advertised label of “ocean-view” is sadly an impossible dream. Instead, the room is dark and dingy, with sad & tired furniture.
Oddly, you can still book rooms here despite being told there are none available so overall rating of the resort and its management is sliding inexorably to well below the standard Marriott vacation club properties achieve.
Don’t come here If you don’t want to be with smokers
We have been coming here for years and find it has steadily gone down hill. People smoke constantly in the rooms and on the beach.
There is no reason Marriott cannot stop this.
They give the excuse the beaches are public but the palapas are only for Marriott guests only. When you are spending thousands of dollars for a vacation you should not have to put your health are risk.
The decor is so cheap it looks like something from Ikea.
Beautiful comfortable chairs have been replaced with cheap uncomfortable chairs and metal boxes as tables. Guests are allowed in the lobby in bare feet and swim suits showing overweight body parts hanging out that no one wants to see.
It is very sad to see the decline here.
Were it not for the above, I would have rated it much higher.
Not for families
Stayed here for 7 nights 10/29-11/5, first day we arrived at around 430pm, checked in to our 1 bedroom unit on 2nd floor(asked for high floor prior to check in, guess they felt 2nd floor qualified), took the kids 13 and 4 y/o to the pool.
At 630 we were told to be quiet in the pool byban employee, needless to say we complained profusely and were told the employee would be spoken to.
We were not being louder than 2 kids playing in a pool would normally be, there are waterfalls in the pool that are louder than the kids, they were the only ones in the pool, and it was only 630!!
Never seen a Marriott property worse than this one.
The rooms are almost as dated as 90% of the patrons, if you are younger than 65 choose different accomodations, over 65 this is probably the place for you. Live and learn, we will not be back.
