disappointing
Booked this hotel via RCI as an exchange.
I have to say that this is the tattiest apartment we have ever stayed at in over 16 years as timeshare owners.
The furniture was tired and dirty – our sofa had ink stains amongs others and the beautiful fabric on the armchairs was dirty – particularly the backs which looked as though the many many years of use have seen some people sitting against them with suncream on (thats all I can imagine).
The sofa was so bad, I covered it up with a blanket rather than have to look at it. The kitchen units were peeling so a definite upgrade is required. The air conditioning was useless and wasnt functioning during the night because reception said it was too noisey!
The pillows on the beds were awful so never had a decent nights sleep. As an RCI exchangee we were made to feel like 2nd class citizens – made to vacate our room earlier than owners and refused a discount card for use in local restaurants etc…. as we were RCI!
Plus we were charged 50 euros per week service charge which I feel is a disgusting addition to the holiday costs and 10 euros per week for a safety deposit box.
With some investment this could be an amazing resort as the facilities and the location are excellent.
I certainly wont be staying there again – there are far far better places to stay where your custom is appreciated!

Recent visit to this timeshare property!!!!
This was our third visit to this wonderful island, but our first to this very tired hotel, if you could call it a hotel. it mainly consisted of timeshares
On our arrival there wasn’y anybody to greet us, she was sat behind a screen and wasn’t very forth coming to come and help us, not a good start. As soon as we were given a KEY for the room I knew the hotel was going to be dated.
Don’t get me wrong, the room was clean but in need of some TLC.
Lovely view of the sea from our room.It was a long way down to breakfast, over a bridge and down 4 floors, to be met by a very miserable guy who did’t tell us anything.
Very poor display of food on offer, it was only on the second day that we discovered bacon and scrambled egg in a bain-marie and to get a pot of tea was a bit of a trial !!!
We did find out from the time sharers that there is some financial problems with the hotel, that’s whats wrong with the staff.
There are a lot of really good hotels on the island cheaper than this hotel, we won’t be going back that is for sure.
Dont go there
First room we were allocated had NO terrace or patio, unable to open windows because people could see in and a house was almost within the complex which had chickens, plus a dog that barked. After several discussions, we got moved on our third night.
Air conditioning goes OFF at 10.00 p.m each night. and comes on at 10.00 a,m each morning. When do you need air conditioning-Yes when you are in your room sleeping. When we said we were so uncomfortable and found it difficult to sleep the manager said it was not hot, sorry we know when we are hot and uncomfortable, however, they did then say that it was turned off because it was too noisy and the police had been called out about it being too noisy. Which is interesting as there was disco that went on until 4.30 in the morning which was extremely noisy, this was right next to the police station. They say they have a sister complex you can use NO you cannot.
The majority of staff were unhappy and unhelpful except for the lady that cleaned the toilets.
You had to pay 2.5 Euros each for a sun umbrella. Not allowed to leave your bed for more than an hour, whilst we can understand that you should not leave a towel on a bed all day and go out, it can be a bit of a stretch to go back to your room get a drink, make something to eat and get back within the hour, not a relaxing way to sunbathe.
The kitchen worktop was broken. Would not be allowed in England.
Holes in th carpet. Extractor fan in bathroom broken
The gym had been broken for four years apparently awaitng parts.
If you are timeshare you could be charged 50 Euros
Could do better
We have just returned from The Madeira Regency Club after spending 3 weeks on an exchange through RCI on timeshare.
Although the location of the hotel is perfect and the rooms overlooking the sea have an excellent view we feel the kitchens are well overdue for refurbishment, the laminate on the wall cabinets and drawer units is coming away and the cooker and appliances are ancient.
Cleaning and Pool staff are excellent but we found the reception staff very aloof and unhelpful.
We were charged £50 per week for utility services which we thought was exorbitant and this is the only resort we have been charged £2.50 per day for a parasol around the pool.
If returning to Madeira we would try another Hotel.
stuffy overstated Regency club.
We were booked to stay for 1 week at the Madeira Regency Club in Funchal, and then we stayed at the Pestana Village for the 2nd week. Thank goodness that we were only at the Regency for a week, or we could have died from the looks we received from some of the owners!
The major point that the Regency has got going is the view from the balcony – to be honest it was worth the problems for that view. However, you will struggle in high season to get a sunbed and the staff simply ignore you if you are not a “regular”. There was a leak in our room that came from the room above, and we didn’t get an apology and we had to clean it up ourselves.
I had used pots and pans to catch the water and they expected me to wash them up afterward! They got another thought when we left. Then we were lucky enough to be moved to the Pestana Village. What a joy! I realised there that I was the customer! Lovely rooms, fantastic pool views and a great setting.
On Madeira the nighlife isn’t up to much, but if you want a quiet drink and a chat with friends then it is fine for you. I would not recommend taking children, unless they can keep themselves amused in a pool.
Beware the timeshare touts selling “cheap flights” on the main road.
Definitely rate Madeira for going on a couples holiday but won’t take children again. Will avoid the Regency all together.
