My worst hotel experience ever!
Not only will I never stay at this hotel again, I may never stay at another Holiday Inn (and, definitely not another Holiday Inn “Vacation Club” property) due to this experience. The property is dated and overpriced… but even that I can deal with – the incredibly poor service I received, however, made this the worst hotel stay experience of my life (and I spend about 160 nights per year in hotels – and am a Platinum or higher member with most hotel chain loyalty programs).
My terribly poor experience started upon check-in… when asking for a pen to sign and initial the hotel agreement upon arrival, Jola (the front desk receptionist) sneered and said rudely “the pens are over there” – pointing to a cup full of pens farther down on the counter. I could care less that she didn’t acknowledge me as a Platinum member (a standard protocol when staying at any IHG property), I just wish she wasn’t so condescending and rude. And I imagine Jola was laughing over the whole “pen experience” when she assigned the 2 rooms for my stay (I was with family – and reserved 2 rooms) – because she put us in different areas, instead of adjoining rooms, on the second floor – with literally no view.
Thus, not only did we not get the standard room upgrades, we were given horrible rooms (away from each other) with no view at all. I booked and prepaid for our stay in advance, and the day we arrived, I happened to notice on IHG.com that the hotel price we paid was double the price if we had booked the day of our arrival (again, had we booked on IHG.com).
I did mention to the hotel that it didn’t really seem fair. I understand the purpose of prepaying rooms – to ensure the hotel knows its occupancy rate in advance – but don’t penalize loyal customers who previously trusted the integrity of your pricing.
Just because of Jola (your receptionist) and your “pricing games,” I will no longer stay at any Holiday Inn Vacation Club property!
Timeshare Pitch Trap
Not so much a resort as it is a trap to sell you on a timeshare. They will not give you a parking pass until you talk to the “Vacation Station” where they will send you to a nearby property under false pretences and trap you for a day to give you the highest pressure sales pitches ever.
Nothing short of screaming at the staff will get you away from their salespeople.
Think you can just forget the parking pass?
They will call your room every day to remind you that if you want to keep parking on the property, you’re going to have to talk to the salesperson. Great way to ruin what should be a fun time. I had come here last year and it was a good time, sad to see that things have changed like this.
Seems very desperate on their end and I’ll never be back.
Disappointing
Very disappointed, stayed here before with my daughter as an IHG member and it was wonderful so came back this time as a couple, still IHG Members and needless to say we won’t be back. We have a VERY small room that was very expensive with only a queen bed. Our balcony if you call it that faces houses, on the east side NOT the Gulf as we were told at check-in, we have only one rusted out chair on our balcony so not sure how anyone can enjoy it with a partner.
The shower curtain liner is disgusting, I absolutely refused to put it in the shower with me corroded with mould and filth with who knows what splattered all over it.
VERY disappointed as he is a Spree Elite member and we have stayed at Holiday Inns and other IHG properties all over and this was so very disappointing and a sad representation of the brand. Since we were on the first floor we were fortunate enough to also hear chairs constantly being drug across tile floor above us all day and late into the night, and to top it all off as I was just sitting on the balcony the people above us started throwing Cheetos at the birds which landed on the balconies below and there were birds EVERYWHERE fighting over food!
NOT THE ENJOYABLE RELAXING WEEKEND, WE WERE LOOKING FOR! Especially not at this price!
Completely botched by IHG and Club Vacations
What was supposed to be an awesome multi-generational vacation, started horrendously and had several mini-disasters throughout thanks to IHG, Club Vacations, and the staff (including Star, Clare, Kendall and Shelly).
Despite booking over four months in advance, requesting a lockout (so rooms are together) and being assured ahead of time things were setup properly, we arrived to have three rooms in three separate locations of the hotel for 8 people. Over the course of 7 trips to the front desk (who doesn’t not handle reservations, cannot make modifications, has no clue who is staying in the hotel and when rooms are booked/available), 19 calls to IHG and Club Vacations (who do not speak to each other or in the same terminology) and a couple erroneous charges we ended up with the same situation and a couple cancellation charges and a heap of stress.
Our rooms were never together and we were told the lockout/adjacent rooms were not available – despite two rooms connected to two of our rooms being open 85% of the stay. Nothing could be done. The front desk hung up on my mother in law in mid sentence.
Club Vacations hung on me after stating they would no longer entertain the situation and that they were at no fault as they cannot plan for rooms in this manner (i.e. advanced booking???). The rooms were not properly ready and we had to go to the desk and get more towels and sheets, coffee, etc., as well.
The pool was shut down our last day there and the elevators were running inefficiently. And one of our rooms has a toilet that when flushed could only be described as convulsing – and we were told it was functioning normally.
This is our third stay – and most likely our last. The first two were good, which is why we returned. But the communication, lack of hospitality and overall disregard for guests is unacceptable.
WIFI sucked every single day every single hour!!!!
We will no visit again. We need WIFi to do our communication, banking, plan the next day, write Trip Advisor reviews….. It often takes 30 minutes to get connected and then it breaks completely every 10 or 15 minutes. How much time I wasted fiddling around with their system! Our stay was the end of October. Imagine how this would be in the summer!
Otherwise, the apartments are quite nice. We had a one bedroom suite with a large living room including a well-equipped kitchenette and a large bathroom. We had a large balcony from which we could see the ocean and unfortunately also the highway. Sitting on the balcony was not so much fun because of the noise.
Cleanliness was so-so (long black hairs on the towels). The vent above the hob was totally useless. When we were cooking it was like in a sauna, even with all doors open, and one day we even caused a fire alarm.
One remark: some reviewers called it a hotel. It is not. It is also not a club vacation. The correct name is “Galveston Beach Resort“. It is a vacation rental. This means no breakfast, very limited housekeeping (one time per week), and empty your trash yourself, including when you leave.
Dated, with nice access to the beach
Let me start by stating that we are IHG Vacation Club owners and this our first time using the membership for vacation. This location caught out eye because it was right on the water and the reviews on the IHG website all rated it very high. MISLEADING!
First, some pros:
1. Great location – right on the beach, not crowded and away from the main tourist area.
2. Close to the heart of the city, shops and restaurants.
Now, cons:
1. DATED AND OLD. Old appliances and furniture. One of the screen doors leading to the balcony was broken and would not close without a kick. NOTHING LIKE WHAT WE WERE SHOWN DURING THE SALES PRESENTATION AND WE WERE TOLD ALL ROOMS ARE LIKE THIS!
2. The rooms are not super clean, with hair and dirt on the floor. There was an odor in the room on the first night, we had to sleep with the balcony doors open to get rid of it.
3. Unresponsive management. Shortly after check-in, we had asked for a different room and were told all the rooms were occupied. Interestingly enough, pulling up the hotel on Expedia showed a lot of availability. We were promised that a manager would contact us in the morning; no call from the manager ever came.
4. AC in the hallways was on during the weekend when we checked in, and then stopped working for the entire week. Magically got fixed on Friday night before the long weekend and more people coming to stay at the location.
Overall, very disappointed with this stay. We have been loyal to IHG and purchased their timeshare in hopes of staying at good, quality hotels. What a huge disappointment! IHG lures you in with pictures of nice hotels, show great rooms with modern furniture and appliances during the sales presentations just to get you in.
NOT WORTH THE MONEY WE HAVE PAID INTO THIS PROGRAM!
