Be careful Booking Bay Gardens Beach Resorts Online
I booked this hotel through Bookings.com and was given 24H to cancel without charge which I did. I received a cancellation notice from Bookings.com which said all charges were waived and that the reservation was cancelled without any charge.
However, my card was charged over 810US (including taxes) for the three nights, the full charge. Bay Gardens is arguing it a non-refundable room and that Bookings has to clear before they release my funds.
Despite the clear evidence I presented Bay Gardens |Beach resort is refusing to reverse the charges. I am told there are many reasons why Bay Gardens is holding on to this money and will share in my next review if I am forced to stay at his hotel.
So be very careful when dealing with bookings.com in good faith as clearly, Bay Gardens does not honour the arrangement.
Just coming to the end of a months tour of the West Indies we were really looking forward to the end of a fabulous trip in the beautiful island of St Lucia at the Bay Gardens Hotel & Resort. We stayed at the hotel & visited the resort for the beach/restaurants.
The hotel is basic & on the whole what you’d expect for the money (with an added extra of a cockroach in our room!)
Our dissatisfaction was with the staff attitude we had a similar response to requests as some previous reviewers have & as customer service is so easy to get right this is what is so disappointing.
It’s the staff at the resort more than the hotel which is surprising considering this is the high end option. The reception staff were sarcastic & rude when they mislaid my book and it got shuttled back to the hotel when I was at the resort, they just told me to ‘wait and see it may be around later’ the estimate was 2 hrs later. I really don’t understand why it took 7hrs+ to get my property back? This sounds trivial & it really isn’t about the book it is the attitude of the staff that I spoke to which isn’t what I should have experienced in a resort which claims some level of excellence.
There were a group of very rowdy young men playing football on the beach, the ball was going everywhere hitting sunbathers & disrupting everyone and the beach security asked us if we would move!!! Charming & not such an idyllic beach experience.
The shuttle between the premises very rarely runs on time despite the distance between them being just 5minutes drive we waited 45 mins one night – we would have walked it but in wet swimsuits & not feeling very well we kept waiting!
Finally but probably most importantly if you go & meet for the initiation talk don’t agree to the time share talk we were not made fully aware of what it was before agreeing to meet (our mistake) but we were told it would be a brief chat over breakfast so ‘that it doesn’t eat into your vacation time’ but we lost a valuable half a day after they firstly forgot about us & then strung out the sales talk.
Ouch go to another resort
Arrived at Bay Gardens Beach Resort today after exchanging the timeshare through Interval International. Watch out, you signed up for the all-inclusive. When we did the exchange, there was no mention of the all-inclusive requirement on the Interval International summary, but our email confirmation defiantly stated it in the fine print (page 3). Beware. Very unfortunate, as we would of definitely went with another resort where we would have the freedom to explore the restaurants and bars, rather than be caged at a resort with the same old same old. The resort is nice but would be more fun if there was more exploring to do.
Also, the night we arrived the resort had their “employee awards ceremony”. I love supporting your staff but playing loud music in the center of your resort and closing down a destination bar/restaurant for guests on a Saturday seems, a bit drastic.
I apologize for the long post. Interval people, watch out. Avoid the loud annoying awards ceremony. I highly recommend you find another place, as there are plenty on this island. Cheers
Great hotel but disappoinitng management
We seemed to have a great stay at the hotel, as service by staff, in general, was very pleasant. the location is great and amenities are kept general in clean and good working order. no complaints, except for the treatment of management of their guests. Management does not seem to have a long term view of their guest in mind. The hotels offer complimentary watersport equipment hire from a place next door.
Unfortunately, one of the four pedals of the pedalling boat for four that we were given, was broken but this was only found out once out in the sea. We, therefore, pedalled with 3 instead of four and returned this back to place 20 minutes later advising that it was broken. The next day we were told by the hotel we had to pay for the repair, as the rental place accused us to have broken it.
Assistant Manager Cheryl Gustave, was not willing to accept that it was broken beforehand and simply insisted we pay for the damage. The actual hotel manager did not even bother to come and deal with this. They did believe their guests and basically called us a ‘liar’. Their interest is clearly focused on their short-term profit than long terms customer relationship. Unfortunately, the way were treated, I will never return, and hope that other also think twice before going and book at the Bay gardens. there are plenty of beautiful alternatives nearby.
Highly Unsanitary poor Management
Recently my family and I went to one of our favourite island destinations and had the most horrible experience in all my years of travel. I am 66 years of age and have visited many islands, cities, and countries and have never been subjected to such lack of responsibility by management. Their attitude was laid back and reprehensible. I love the island and the people and never had a bad day during any of my prior visits. There was no orientation, there wasn’t any follow up or proper correction of complaints.
Upon arrival to my dismay, the toilet wasn’t properly flushing and the exhaust fan in the bathroom was sounding the same as the helicopter I just arrived on to which I promptly reported to the desk. A person was sent whom I saw on my way out to dinner and he had a can of WD-40. We returned late that evening and the toilet was still not flushing correctly and the fan was as noisy as when reported to which the handyman had to know prior to him leaving. Our stay was for 5 days and I didn’t use my toilet until the last day prior to leaving and it still didn’t flush.
I had several problems entering my room and had to change key card several times always going back and forth to the desk. There were certain activities that were included in our stay but we weren’t aware of the proper procedure to use them because of no orientation. We had to swim out to this water park to find out we needed to get a life jacket and a pass so we were directed to the shack on the beach who told us we needed a card that was included in our package upon arrival and we explained we never received them.
So another trip to the desk to find out they only could fine one and would call down to let them know we were good to go. Vacation is supposed to be enjoyable and relaxing not wasting time chasing cards, keys, and maintenance. There are posted signs stating no nudity and in the clear presence of security personnel and staff members a man in his 30’s disrobed in the presence of all and changed into his suit without any coverage whatsoever and his wife followed and their two young children were nude throughout their two-hour stay on the beach. Although staff members stated there displeasure to me not one approached this couple who probably were they came from this was normal and they were most likely unaware of the rule.
Also the lighting in the bathroom was dim at best and it took two days and two attempts to get the proper lighting and three days to change the helicopter fan. As we were about to get into the transport to leave I was approached by the manager and explained to her my issues and also mention my stay included a buffet and I was told there was a limit of food which was unbeknownst to us. She had made me an offer to I thought was to refund one of my rooms only to find out after leaving it was the charges for incidentals.
We were also overcharged at the bar $18.00 for a glass of champagne no name brand just house and also overcharged for a piece cheesecake to which she was outraged. When I returned home I wrote her an email stating that I was shocked to find out that she didn’t make the refund I was sure she stated. Her reply was I didn’t contact management my until 10 minutes prior to departure and didn’t report all the problems I encountered my reply was if the staff was better trained which is obviously her department no would encounter these propblems. I never had a major complaint or a minor one that wasn’t handle professionally until now.
I didn’t knowthe staff wasn’t capable of forwarding complaints and referring them and didn’t know it was my responsiblity to chase down management. I recommend the island, the people, and the food but not the Bay Garden Resort
Beware of bait and switch tactic!
When you try to book the Bay Gardens Beach Resort for the prices listed on TripAdvisor you are assigned a room at the Bay Gardens Inn, in a totally different location!!! I tried to alert TripAdvisor to this situation, but no one will listen to me.
No one from the hotel to Booking.com to TripAdvisor will take responsibility for this and give me a refund for my cancellation (which by the way, I requested within an hour of the booking).
Poor Service, and Cleanliness
Definitely not worth the money to stay at this Resort as a couple. It is loaded with family’s which makes it loud, and undesirable. The service was extremely poor. They whole service team was completely confused. It took 4 different managers, and servers to take our drink order which was simply a Piton, and a water. Why? It is your national beer, not sure why it was so difficult to understand.
Our room always felt damp, and had a stench of BO the whole time. It was the garden view, just so you know…there is no garden.
Splurge and spend the extra money to stay at Cap Maison. The resort which we came from. Even if you get the smallest, cheapest room there, it is nicer than Bay Gardens Penthouse. I’m sure of it. Also there is nothing special about Rodney Bay. Go to the pitons or gros islet.
