Perfect setting
My wife and I were fortunate to arrange an RCI timeshare exchange for a two bedroom chalet at Stouts Hill. From our first contact with Jenny who took us on a complete tour of the country house and the surrounding facilities, we were greatly impressed. Our unit was a large two bedroom apartment on two floors with views of the estate from the second floor bedroom.
The unit was comfortably furnished and equipped with everything one would need for a week’s stay. The gardens and grounds are extensive and lovely. We were often greeted (or followed) by the geese and partridges that paraded around the estate.
Uley is perfectly located for visiting all areas of the Cotswolds. Dursley is a few minutes away, and Tetbury is a short drive. We took day trips to Stow-on-the-Wold and Oxford, and found that both locations could be reached in less than 90 minutes.
In the Stouts Hill area are several fine pubs. We highly recommend The Old Spot in Dursley for lunch. Another nearby pub serving lunch and dinner is Hunter’s Hall in Kingscote where we had excellent meals.
Stouts Hill is one of those off-the-beaten-path places you must seek out to discover, but it is worth the search. Truly one of the nicest timeshares we have ever experienced.

Will definitely return
Just back from this wonderful place and will definitely return, stayed in one of the mews cottages using points through Diamond Resorts.
The cottages have two large bedrooms with a full bathroom upstairs. There is also a loo downstairs too. The kitchen area has everything you could wish for including a microwave, toaster, cooker and every cooking utensil you could possibly want.
The dining area has a large table with 6 seats around it. The living area has a large 3 seater sofa, a 2 seater sofa and a chair. There is also a DVD and video player and a flat screen tv. Outside is a small patio area with table and 4 chairs.
The resort itself has a beautiful lake, a putting green, outdoor and indoor swimming pool. Badminton court, games room with snooker and pool tables, air hockey and table tennis. All the equipment is available in the main house for free.
For such a tiny resort 14 units, it has everything you could wish for. It is a perfect base to explore the Cotswolds. There are so many places to visit in the surrounding areas.
The staff were really knowledgeable especially Belinda who showed us around the hall proudly explaining its heritage.

A Unique Place to Stay
My wife and I stayed in the older historic part of the property and staying in such an environment was really unbelievable.
A great deal of what was on offer I believe will be unique in the Timeshare world:- an honesty bar, a dining night where guests can enjoy an excellent meal and get to know each other and overall a feeling of relaxing in luxury in one of the public rooms.
All this in one of the most attractive parts of the UK.
A great way to enjoy a Cotswolds vacation
Stouts Hill is an old British Country House on about 25 acres that was converted into a timeshare years ago. It’s run by the owners themselves. We have owners for 20+ years. We keep coming back, usually twice a year.
Weeks, when apartments are unoccupied, can be rented at very reasonable dates by the general public.
Although the main house is divided into nine apartments, most of the time you have the place to yourselves. There’s an outdoor and an indoor pool where you might meet other guests. There’s also an honours bar adjacent to one of the public rooms.
The apartments have kitchens equipped with bone China, crystal and flatware. Although they supply paper napkins, you can request linen ones in the office.
There are also five cottages on the property, built as a block of attached row houses.
Personally, we love it. Are there drawbacks? Yes. We Americans are used to using washcloths. These are usually not standard in countryside accommodations. Bring your own. Also, the decor, which is pretty acceptable to British people, is not necessarily what Americans expect when they travel. However, the RCI timeshare people consistently give them a five-star rating, the highest they award, as I recall.
We love it. There is lots to do nearby. We keep coming back.
Hopefully, our visits will continue for some years.
We were one of the first owners of a timeshare at Stouts Hill and apart from a couple of years we have visited every year.
My grown up children love it here and always take the week off to visit. We have an apartment in the main house in April and have numerous parties etc. in the dining room with friends family over the years.
The staff are fantastic as they have always been. If it rains we just sit quietly and read with a glass or two of wine.
Over the years we have had rain, snow and very hot weather, all at the same time of the year.
Hopefully, our visits will continue for some years. Love it like a second home !!
Great Family Holiday
We had a great family holiday at Stouts hill.
Despite it being the school summer holidays it did not feel buy or over run with children. Its in a really nice and peaceful location, in lovely grounds. We stayed in the main house, in Apartment 7, which had its own little private garden.
Stouts Hill used to be a boarding school and it’s where Stephen Fry went to school. If you go into the room where the snooker tables are, you will see lots of old photos on the wall. In the main house, there is a separate lounge area and a dinning room (where once a week they will do a sit down meal, if there is enough interest).
The accommodation is self catering and although it’s a little dated, it’s comfortable and clean. There is a small indoor pool (which is lovely and warm), an outside pool (that was very cold), two excellent snooker tables, a games room (table tennis, darts, table football, air hockey and pool table), a tennis court (that’s is a bit bumpy and does need resurfacing soon), a decent badminton court, a pitch and put (good place for golfers to practice chipping), a putting area (not the best), a lake at the bottom (where with the right permits you can fish). You’re better off, taking your own sports equipment if you have it (though they do have equipment you can borrow for free, in the main house).
You can walk to a local shop and pub in about 10 minutes (there is a footpath you can take, directly opposite the main entrance). The local pub, The Old Crown in Uley serves a good pint, but we didn’t feel it was a friendly or welcoming pub).
Stouts hill is handy for visiting Slimbridge, Highgrove (you need to book well ahead and remember to take your passport to get in), Cotwsold edge Golf Club (5 mins away, and you can get a letter from Stouts Hill, to get a discount). There is a Sainsbury’s 10 minutes away.
We liked the Old Badger in Eastington.

Wonderful
Just back from spending 2 weeks at this wonderful resort.
We are owners, with our timeshare week being in September, but we usually rent a week in the low season. This is the first time we have stayed for 2 weeks – 1 week never seems enough, even in the winter.
We had a friend with us for part of our first week and family for the second week although they were in a separate apartment, albeit next door to ours.
This is our favourite timeshare mainly because it is so quiet and peaceful, although there are many interesting places nearby. It is good walking country, much of it challenging & the staff have many recommendations.You have to bear in mind that the main house in Stouts Hill is old. Living in an old house ourselves we recognize the battle to maintain an old property.
You do have to make your own entertainment, but facilities include an indoor pool, an outdoor pool for the summer, a badminton hall, table tennis, pool table, air hockey & table football.It is probably better for older children; our grandchildren, aged 2 & 5, were a little bit too young to make use of anything other than the pool. They did enjoy being in a large space, though, both inside and out The grounds are extensive, with a tennis court, pitch & putt & a lake. Plenty of room for children to run around & there is a small adventure playground (not swings etc, but log challenges).
We have stayed in most of the apartments & they are all different. The mews cottages are more self-contained & may be better for families, but we prefer staying in the main house.
There is a pub in Uley village, nothing fancy, just pub grub, but with good beer from Uley brewery. Prema cafe is also worth a visit, not for the art but for the coffee & snacks. They do get a bit busy at times, especially in school holidays. There’s a fairly well-stocked community store, with a post office in the village which we try use when we can.
So if you want a peaceful week (or two) away from it all, this is the place for you.
Wonderful holiday
We have just returned from Stouts Hill after a most enjoyable holiday. There is so much for children and teenagers to do from tennis, snooker, croquet, putting, pitch and put, badminton, table tennis & table football. All free.
Unfortunately, the outdoor pool was chilly this year, but the small indoor pool was well used.
Lovely grounds and beautiful countryside with plenty of walks nearby and many pubs in the area.
This is a self-catering holiday, but the house has 2 lounges and a bar you can use if you wish.
We are timeshare owners at Stouts Hill, but there is plenty of accommodation to rent.

Just home from our weeks stay at Stouts Hill.
We exchanged our timeshare week and what a great exchange it proved to be!
The apartments are situated in the old house and in a row of mews cottages. Our apartment was 14 which was the end cottage – and probably the best of the five mews cottages as it was at the end and overlooked the beautiful grounds.
The apartment and grounds were very well kept and. Looked after.
The staff were lovely and full of information on the local area. I cannot recommend this resort enough! Definitely 5 star +
Comfortable base for the southern Cotswolds
We spent a comfortable week at Stouts Hill in one of their “bungalows”. The situation and views were idyllic. We were able to wake to a wonderful view of Uley and its dominating hill fort as sun, rain, snow and wind by turn battered the village.
This is a small timeshare resort which also rents out weeks. Accommodation is in a mews of five purpose built exterior apartments and nine apartments in the 18th century house. The building has been through several metamorphoses in its lifetime including housing a school attended by Stephen Fry.
The extensive grounds include outdoor and indoor swimming pools, a badminton court (which was shut during our visit by damp problems), a pitch and putt course and a fishing lake.
The public rooms include a small “honour” bar and library, a dining room where a dinner is on offer on one evening each week and a sitting room which includes a huge fireplace depicting hunting items in the local stone. This is either splendid or hideous depending on your taste.
Our welcome was warm and the explanatory literature comprehensive. A couple of guests had problems moving their luggage up flights of stairs in the main house but help was found for them.
Our mews apartment was on two floors. A Monday morning welcome meeting offered advice and brochures about the area.
Decoration and furnishing tend towards the chintzy. There were two bedrooms one with a 6ft double bed and the other with singles. The bathroom included an efficient shower which needed experimentation to reach an acceptable temperature. There was a hairdryer and abundant towels.
Downstairs is open plan. A cloakroom is accessed from the entrance vestibule. The kitchen area includes a floor standing mid size fridge with a small internal freezer. We were told that a communal freezer was available in the main house if we needed to use it for larger items.
The cooker and hob were electric with an extraction fan. There was a kettle and a drip coffeemaker. Kitchen towel, washing up liquid and rubber gloves were all supplied. There was no dishwasher.
The generous seating and dining areas included a television, a DVD player, a video player and a radio/CD player. WiFi is available throughout the resort but reception is mixed.
The whole apartment is centrally heated with large radiators which during our March visit were very welcome. The downside was that the heating system proved quite noisy until the maintenance staff came in and bled the radiators. An access road to the mews car park was so potholed that one had to drive carefully to protect the car.
With all the on-site facilities, guests could just stay around Uley.
The village has a community-run store and pub where, I understand, the products of the town’s own brewery can be savoured. The town of Dursley is a brief drive to the west and Tetbury to the east is an antique treasure.
Here, too, is a Highgrove estate shop. Fellow guests’ explorations took in Cheltenham, Bristol and Bath. I particularly enjoyed the Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge. So there is much to do and to see.
We’d happily revisit Stouts Hill.
