Reminiscent of an 1970s Flophouse
From the exterior and the pool area, one might think Palm Canyon, a Diamond Resorts International (DRI), has merit as a moderately-priced (or points) resort. WRONG. We could not believe how horrible the “Villa” was. The patio chairs and table were filthy, the studio was stark, the toilet was literally crooked, the bed lumpy, and the TV’s picture was distorted. We could not wait to leave and we love Palm Springs. One positive, the water was hot when showering in the awful bathtub. Glad to be gone!!

Spacious but needs updating
We had a spacious two bedroom two bathroom suite in November 2015 with a mountain view. The exterior of the complex looks very nice and the pool area is quite beautiful but the bar/restaurant was under renovation while we were there. Unfortunately, the interiors need updating. Maybe once they are updated this would be a good place to visit as the location is excellent, south end of Palm Canyon Drive close to Indian Canyons which are worth seeing. Loved the many restaurants in Palm Springs, Village Fest, Art Museum, Living Desert and El Paseo Drive.
Terrible experience
We arrived to Palm Canyon hoping for an escape to celebrate my son’s birthday and 8t turned into a nightmare. As soon as we arrived we were given a room that was over 80 degrees and when I called the front desk they did nothing.
Finally after an hour I went down to the desk and complained so that someone would come help. After 2 more hours, we finally got assigned another room, when turning back into the resort to get new keys, we left to cool off and have dinner, we were accosted by drunk hotel guests yelling obscenities and hitting our car. Not only did they upset us but our young children and birthday boy in the car. Not to mention the slides and pools were closed for no reason and the service at the pool was non-existent as well as signs stating not to be in the pool if you had diarrhoea, no joke.
Diamond and the front desk told us that they couldn’t do anything for us and told us nothing but sorry, we left at midnight trying to get as far as we could from this terrible place and experience, my son’s birthday ruined.
I will NEVER stay here again. This was the worst experience of my life in dealing with any resort or hotel. Stay away!
Bummer summer trip, find somewhere else.
I am writing about my experience at the Palm Canyon Resort.
First off, the positives about the Palm Canyon resort. The pool was
fantastic. My family and I enjoyed the openness, the slides, the games and
the staff located there. We also enjoyed the resort’s location in palm
springs, with incredible views and quiet surroundings.
Unfortunately, there were some severe downsides to our vacation which were
major contributors to us not looking into purchasing a longer term vacation
package with Diamond Resorts.
To begin with, our air conditioner sat at around 78 to 80 degrees our entire
vacation even though I had it set to 69 degrees. When it’s 109 outside, it’s
really tough to be in a room with four people at such an uncomfortable
temperature. Later in the evening, sleeping in such a stagnant heat was
terrible. I made several calls to the front desk and they said they would
have someone come look at it. No one ever showed but by sheer luck I was able
to flag down a service technician who had just finished up something and was
walking through my hallway. He spent over an hour trying to diagnose the
problem, told me he fixed it, then left. When I returned to my room about an
hour and a half after the tech “fixed it” I checked the thermostat and saw
that it was still 80 degrees so I called the front desk again. This time the
service tech and his supervisor came out and spent another hour trying to fix
the AC. When they left, they told me that they were going to work on the AC
units on the roof or outside and going to fix the problem there and that the
AC will be fixed shortly. It was never fixed and my family and I spent the
evening in a room that at 8pm was 82 degrees. When I told the front desk that
night what was going on not once did they offer to move me. When I told them
again about it at check out all I got was a, “Sorry about that”.
Next, my 15 1/2 year old son was sitting on the deck facing the pool when
some of the Palm Canyon staff was coming up the walkway with a couple of
appliances on a dolly. They seemed to be having a bit of difficulty and I am
sure that the 108 temperature outside wasn’t helping but when one techs asked
the other to do something a verbal altercation broke out. My son is sitting
there witnessing one of your staff telling another staff member to “calm the
“F” down”. Well, one thing leads to another and the two techs take there
altercation to another level with one of the guys taking a swing at the
other! Lucky, the security guard just happened to be right there and was able
to restrain the palm desert technician until he could, in his partners words,
“calm the “F” Down”. That was absolutely ridiculous. I have never seen
anything like that in hospitality and I was extremely upset that my 15 year
old son had witnessed it.
In all my Palm Canyon Resort experience was really disappointing due to the
above issues. The staff at a resort and on a vacation is so important and
clearly Diamond Resorts doesn’t have it. I’d been referred by a friend and
heard great things about Diamond Resorts Int but I’ll look to Starwood or
Wyndam next time.
The cockroaches were the last draw!
My family and I were very disappointed in our stay at the Palm Canyon Resort this past weekend. It began when my daughter almost lost her arm in the elevator door. Evidently, the elevator isn’t equipped with an entrance safety feature which would have prevented this “near miss”.
Then we got to the pool and had to distract my kids so they wouldn’t witness the adults behind us began fighting over a lounge chair. I also pleaded with these same people to stop smoking in the pool area (they continued after management informed them of the non-smoking policy within the pool area). Then, I spent 20 mins to discover that all the ice machines in three of the buildings were empty.
We then decided to take another dip in the pool. This time, management nearly incited a riot by taking away a beach ball from a crowd of people in the pool. During the night, we had to call security twice about the continuous loud noise coming from above us.
Although security came to our room to witness first-hand what sounded like the “running of the bulls” the bulls kept running until just after midnight. My infant daughter woke up several times because of this.
My last straw were the cockroaches my wife ran away from that were at the bottom of the stairs in the Sunset building. In summary, I would not even recommend the Palm Canyon Resort to my ex-wife.
Outdated
Just got home from Palm Canyon and won’t go back! We have travelled all over the world, and this hotel is one place we will never visit again. We were in a junior villa. We had 2 rooms. Outdated and not that clean. The carpeting and furniture is old and dirty.
We called and asked for 2 more blankets and were told we were only allowed one! The pool is average, but we spent two days and had a lounge chair, not one day!! We tried to tell management, some man running around the pool area in a linen suit, and all he did was tell us he would be back to talk to us. Put us off 2 times and never addressed our complaint.
Then the early afternoon of the second day the slide pool had to be closed for shocking. The main attraction of our visit was for the slide pool! Only had mistress going on half of the patio area and it was 100 degrees!
Also asked to exchange our wet pool towels for a couple of dry ones, and were told they couldn’t do that! Huh? Really? Overall it was obvious they were just worried about getting time share people to buy into this place, that is obviously in the middle of a turnover.
Their excuse for poor facilities is that they are in the process of changing ownership. Well, who’s problem is that? Obviously the consumers at this place.
Disappointing expected better
We arrived on aug 31st , check I was slow but they tried to make the best of it. Our room was a two bed/two bath and was not ready when we got there, towels and toiletries were missing called to have them delivered ( got them within 30 min) but found also used Qtips on the floor of the bedroom .
The rooms are old and I know they are going thru renovations but this room can certainly used it fast, the bathtubs need to be replaced or cleaned better, the jets on the tub have visible mold so we did not use it of course, the curtains do not have the lighter curtains so people can clearly see you fro the outside , carpets are old and stained, I will say that the mattress are comfortable but the rooms are dark.
The kitchen is full sized which was great but it’s very dated, the appliances looked new. I used the microwave and it blew the fuse so maintenance had to come and fix it, (fast again) .
The pool is big and the slides were fun but it was dirty, water is murky and all the sides of the pool wall need a Thorough scrubbing it has a film. They do have lifeguards on duty so that is good.
Overall I will not come back and not recommend this place. I feel as a possible client (I have bought a sampler deal from diamond resorts) you should make sure you put your clients in good quality rooms, if I am expected to pay around 800 dlls a year for maintenance fees I would be livid from this stay, i sure met one of the timeshare owners that was. This played a role on not buying the timeshare, the Scottsdale links resorts was better but still old rooms.
I almost forgot this room has a loud and not to good of an a/c unit
Like I said just expected MUCH better from diamond resorts
Cockroaches, mould and duplicity
Superficial problems: cockroaches, mould, broken keycard door locks and more!
My family own a timeshare at this resort in Palm Springs California. Diamond Resorts recently bought Monarch Resorts and stripped all of the value out of our deed. There are a lot of other people complaining about the exact same problem on reviews websites.
Avoid doing business with Palm Canyon and their affiliates like diamond resorts. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some class-action lawsuits in the works. What do you all think?
Very disappointing, won’t ever stay here again
I booked this resort for two nights. The junior villa smelled old and musty and the walls are very thin. They are really pushy about selling timeshares as you exit the lobby after check in. The 1st morning a huge cockroach ran across the floor.
We checked out a date early due to the roach issue. The front desk was not surprised when we told her there were roaches. In fact, none of the employees seemed surprised so I feel like it is a known issue.
We were promised a call from the manager to issue us a refund because he was not in the office at the time. We never received a phone call so we called later that same day and we were told he was in a meeting but they would pass along our message. Still no call back. The next morning I called again and was told the manager was in a meeting AGAIN and that they would leave him yet another message to call me back. I asked to speak to someone else but Claudia informed me he was the only person who could help me. She said he is very busy and starts work at 5am (not my problem but ok).
I still haven’t received any communication, refund, or anything from this resort. Worst customer service I have experienced in a long time. We ended up staying in a different 4 star hotel and we were treated MUCH better. Uploaded pics to show the cockroach. Spend more money and stay somewhere better!
Not Good
We decided to use our timeshare points for two nights to avoid losing them at the year-end.
We had relatives in town so thought we would visit them and have a quick vacation at the same time. After checking in, we were accosted at the door with the presentation sell. We declined.
We were in a studio suite on the 2nd floor above the entrance to the underground parking. The studio was very clean and the bed was comfortable. However, when I was told by the receptionist that we were in a refurbished suite I expected more. The bathroom was very drab, with an obvious gap between the bottom of the tub and the floor (a wonderful place for germs and water and who knows what else to hide).
The shower head was made for someone under 5′ 5″. I am 5′ 7″ and my husband is 6′ 3″. Nice to have dual sinks but why not place a mirror over both sinks instead of just the one? Odd… Water pressure and temperature was not great.
The suite is supposed to sleep four but that would have been way too tight – the sofa bed, if opened, would have been right up against the fridge and sink area. The wifi was painfully slow.
I was told the carpets and drapes were new but again, so drab. We were on our way out for the day and the phone rang at 10:00 a.m. It was the presentation call and I was not amused when I could not get the guy off the phone.
I ended up hanging up on him because he wouldn’t take no for an answer. So annoying. We were meant to stay two nights but left the evening before we were meant to check out. Won’t stay here again and won’t recommend this property.
