Review: Ocean Beach Club Resort by Diamond Resorts
I wish I read some of the recent reviews on here first. I have never written a hotel review before but felt it necessary to try and help people make a decision to stay somewhere other than this hotel.
I went to Virginia Beach solo for a work meeting and booked a two-night stay. This place was on the beach, looked fairly nice online, and was right next door to where my meeting was (which was unfortunately fully booked up).
I checked out a night early and drove the 4 hrs home rather than stay another night.
The most disgusting part was the shower curtain. It appeared to have faeces and snot on it. That’s not really something I can get over or that should be missed/left by staff. Or maybe it was meant to match the mildew in the shower.
The carpet was also stained in multiple places – I included one photo. There were some pieces of someone else’s meal left in a corner that wasn’t vacuumed or cleaned up. The cabinets housed somebody’s leftover cereal bars so clearly the staff hadn’t checked them and who knows how long they have been there. The room was supposed to have a Queen bed, but it was not.
Some of those things are admittedly minor, but all together add up to a place that clearly isn’t cleaned or maintained.
I just chalked up the extra night I paid for to a lesson learned about this place and left.
There are a few amenities I just sort of expect from hotels that charge pretty decent rates these days that they didn’t have. I will take responsibility for not researching that but don’t expect room service or a small shop like most decent hotels have nowadays where you can pick up some drinks/chips/candy/Tylenol/toiletries/etc.
There is some irony looking back at my check-in. After checking in, they pointed me to the concierge desk which gave me a “welcome packet” or something like that. I thought it was going to be something like a welcome gift that a lot of places do nowadays with a free water or cookie or whatever. Nope, they just give you some of the free tourist books that tell you about the area. Not a bad thing to have, but compared to hotels who spend at least a couple of bucks to give you a cookie, this place falls short. The real irony, however, was that they then try to sell you on a timeshare, while not describing it as a timeshare. Like anyone is going to want to purchase one after staying at this place…
I think the best way to describe this place is to say that I wouldn’t have been surprised by the accommodations if I was spending $100/night to stay at a small run-down place off the beach. In those places, you’d expect the lack of cleanliness and care as part of the deal.
But this place charges a lot and markets itself as a really nice place on the beach.
It is nowhere near worth the money nor is it a nice place on the beach. If you want to pay hundreds a night to deal with the left behind bodily excretions of other people, feel free.
Just don’t say you weren’t warned…

Horrible experience
I booked through Expedia for April 2017 and I ended up leaving early because of the issues we had.
1- Pulled in and was confused about where to go since no valet met us in the parking lot. I had to walk into the front desk to get assistance with parking.
2- I had to talk to the front desk several times and had trouble talking to someone since no one answered the phone or was out front.
3- Very friendly staff that kept trying to sell timeshare for Diamond Resort — I just checked in and I am being approached about timeshare meetings–I am on vacation.
4- The room was dirty (I found a half-eaten granola bar under my bed). My wife called the cleaning staff to clean the kitchen area to include the counter space since it was sticky and a lot of stains.
5- I checked out early due to dissatisfaction with my stay and was refused a refund.
I stayed in April of 2017. I reached out to Diamond Resorts to discuss my concerns but have never got a response.
Holy hell
This hotel is beautiful online. However, it was all but that!!!.
When I made reservations online, they did not match front desk reservations.
Before arriving, after a 16-hour exhausting ride, I was charged so many extra fee. (Example: resort fees $45.60).
Then, when I was out sightseeing the next day, when I made it back to my hotel room, I found it just like I left it!!! After talking to front desk, I learned that I had to pay $30 for housekeeping. WTH… I probably would not have taken this so hard if I knew about this upfront!!!
For the price you pay per night, it’s really not worth it.
I will never stay here ever again; hell on earth!!!!! Ocean Beach Club, you get a zero star rating from me!!!
Horrible!
This place is absolutely awful. I am flat out embarrassed that my family even attempted to try and stay in their studio. Yes, I said attempted.. because both of them couldn’t even fit in the bed. They literally had to sleep in shifts until we gave up and moved them out and brought them to our house away from the beach for the week they booked doing a timeshare swap.
The front desk staff was exceptionally rude. Especially a lady named Alexis. She managed to turn everything around that we had complaints about on us. It was our fault we didn’t get a telephone message stating that the water was going to be shut off multiple times in one day (which we never had one single notification. We checked) my parents had to go without flushing their toilets for the entire day (while there were faeces in it) and Alexis informed us that was our fault for not getting the phone message. She was rude, she spoke over me the entire time I addressed the issues we had. I left multiple messages for her manager, of course, no one called back.
We have multiple timeshares, I’m sure if everyone would have been treated better there would have been a chance my parent would have purchased a week there. We will NEVER be back, I will NEVER send anyone I know here
Anniversary
We did a timeshare swap. I usually don’t complain, however, this was the worst place we ever stayed at. It first started out by their sales office promising an oceanfront room. It did not happen. The room we got was terrible. It stayed damp the entire time we were there. Our towels never dried. The room was tiny.
When we got there, it was overcrowded at the pool.
They claim it’s a luxury resort- it’s not by any stretch of the imagination. We asked for extra pillows – the front desk folks said they would be put in our room – we had to ask 3 times. My husband had to go down on the 3rd time and wait.
I will say, the valet service was great. The guys and gal were very professional and very polite. The front desk folks were also fine. The cleaning folks were polite and professional. The one tall, skinny, bartender with the topknot ponytail, acted like he did not want to be there working.
Overall, it was disappointing. We will never swap with Diamond resorts ever. They are not a luxury resort. We own a Sheraton 2 bedroom timeshare at Myrtle beach. Much nicer!
Not worth the price
I want to start out by saying Diamond Resorts was absolutely awful to deal with customer service wise. We booked through Groupon and they apparently offered the wrong room and the wrong price. The only good thing out of this vacation is they honoured the two bedroom I paid for. Don’t expect them to call you back when they say they will. It took me a week of calling every day to correct the situation.
Two days before I arrived on my vacation I received multiple calls from the concierge desk about timeshare opportunities. I am not interested in a timeshare and I made it very aware the first time I spoke to someone. When I arrived at the resort to check in I was immediately bombarded by a man standing near the front door who kept insisting I go to the concierge desk to get my “welcome package”. I understand that this resort makes most of their income probably on timeshares but the constant and never-ending pressure to schedule an appointment for a timeshare is unprofessional. If a guest says no thank you, it should be left at that.
Once I checked in and arrived into my room I was disgusted. It was extremely dirty. The floors were filthy. I had stains on my sheets and bedding. The cabinets were completely chipped and in rough shape. The bathroom looked like it wasn’t cleaned at all. There was the hair from a previous guest in the tub and by the bathroom sink. I had what looked like a bug carcass shell stuck to the towel in the bathroom. The air conditioning unit wasn’t working well at all. Just not what I expected for almost $200 a night off-peak season. I can’t imagine paying more than that in any season for the condition of the rooms.
I just wanted to relax so we decided to head to the pool. I brought my 5 year old son with me on this trip. The kids’ pool that was indoor was COLD. I mean cold. My son was shivering and other guests were complaining about how cold it was as well. Just not enjoyable when it’s already 54 degrees outside and raining. The hot tub is in a completely
separate building so I had to run through freezing rain and wind to get to it.
Now I’m going to address the behaviour by some of the employees that were extremely unprofessional. I decided to take a swim in the indoor pool. There were a few male employees standing by the pool towel area talking. I got out of the pool to grab a towel. They were staring at me as I exited the pool and looking me up and down.
I go on vacation once a year. I work two jobs. This was supposed to be a time I can go and relax. Enjoy my time with my son. This was absolutely the worst vacation experience I’ve ever had. I will never be returning to another hotel owned by Diamond Resorts and I suggest you spent the little bit extra at a nicer resort.
