So disappointing
I just spent one night at Mosaic with my family of 5. We had a lovely room. However, the room is directly across from an extremely loud night club. There was no sleep for our family until well after 2am when the bars close. The yelling in the village from drunk patrons was unbearable and the thumping of the music was so frustrating.
I would never go back again. I was so hopeful.
Certainly not a place for a family and I would have appreciated knowing that beforehand.
It’s more of a 2.5 and there are better places for less
The Mosaic hotel in Blue Mountain resort is their newest building. We got a nice suite that had a stove, fridge, queen bed, pull out sofa, fire place (we actually used it in July!) and access to their heated pool. There is some serious flaws though.
First and foremost, 2 of the 3 elevators were not working. Our last day, the one started working but it was a very big hassle.
Check-in could have been a lot smoother. They have some issues with lack of staff. It’s evident. Our toilet did not flush properly (complained and nothing done), our dishwasher soap dispenser was broken (complained nothing done). We asked for an extra duvet 5x and were given blankets each time.
Finally they told us they had a linen crisis at the resort. What’s going on here? You pay quite a bit of money yet you have all these issues? They offered me another place on the resort as they understood there are a lot of problems at the resort right now. I didn’t partake as we had settled in. Bonus is they have kitchenware as well as we cooked in the morning for breakfast. Because you’re on the resort you do get access to a private beach which is nice and has free towels. You also have access to an overly priced Blue Mountain 24 hour pass that lets you do all the activities on the resort. More on that in another review but regardless you do get a 15% discount.
All in all, it’s a good place to stay if you can get a better deal. The price at the resort is about 35% too high for what you get. I’m not sure if we’ll come back or stay at a surrounding property. They did give us complimentary underground parking without us asking which was nice. There is no free breakfast or continental breakfast even at the place. I will do another review on the resort as well, make sure you take look at that as well
Dated & Dented
Recently I stayed at Blue Mountain Resort as part of a group meeting in the Village Conference Centre. This is my 5th time staying at this property in as many years. Overall the hotel component of this complex continues to deteriorate in service and quality and is at best a 3 star property.
My booking indicated I was instructed to check-in at the Grand Georgian – after schlepping my bags to the GG, and waiting a ridiculous amount of time for the front desk clerk to sort out my booking in the computer (even a walk-in – with no reservation – was processed fast than me), I was told to go back outside and down a few buildings to Mosaic. I don’t know why they can point out that your booking will not be in the same location at check-in, save people pulling bags all over the complex. Desk clerks need some customer service training. “Hello”, “Please”, “Thank You” and a Smile, would go a long way to making the ridiculous wait more enduring.
My room in Mosaic was very run down. Dated washroom fixtures, and a lot of scratched, dented and banged up room furniture. Others in our group commented on the same thing (regardless of the building) so this seems to be a common condition. I can say my room last year was also run down, so it appears the property management is not upgrading and renovating rooms. A long black hair in my washroom sink (I have brown hair crew-cut), and lots of grime build up in corners of the washroom.
Tiles are chipping up in the lobby – hazard tape marked off a section of the crumbling tiles in the main lobby.
The complex needs to find a better location for garbage dumpsters than directly in front of the hotel. Using prime proximity parking spaces for garbage is not very attractive, particularly given the amount of luggage dragging needed to get through check-in and arrival to your room.
The village shops, lake and hill scenery were very nice, however, it is sad the hotel is in such decline
One night weekend stay
We visited Blue Mountain for the Scandanave Spa which was fantastic. We decided to stay in the village as we had never stayed before. The Mosaic hotel was clean and the rooms were modern. For some reason the doors however shut VERY loudly and are not very soundproof.
We spent the night listening to people arriving back from the bar, slamming doors and shouting down the hallway to each other.
We lay awake as someone pounded on a door, shouting they were locked out.
I have NO IDEA why there is no kind of security or staff that can keep an eye on people, or post signs requesting guests to keep the noise down.
We enjoyed the village and restaurants, but if you have children or plan on sleeping during the night, I would think to stay OUTSIDE the village would be quieter. Very disappointed with our stay, but again, apart from patrolling the halls for noise, I’m not sure what else can be done to maintain quiet.
Hard to experience a hotel you can’t find, call or check into
Terrible experience at many points … before even stepping into my room
1. Getting to the hotel
– no signs anywhere on the roads coming in that say “Mosaic”. I am not from here and would not know that it is in the village. It was 11 at night, dark, alone… no signs to guide me. But I had a map.. or so I thought …
2. The map on the hotel website sent me to another building 0.6 km away. It was now 11:20 pm. I wandered the building and found a staff member. She said the hotel was a different building, further around the golf course. Back in my car…this time I used google maps with my own address entry and it indeed resent me to a different building. Why this did not match the hotel’s own map?!
3. I find the hotel – difficult to read signs, red background in dark night. NO ONE AT RECEPTION DESK! A ‘be back soon’ sign says to either call an extension (how would I do that? What phone number?)… or “contact Georgian Village”. No phone number. I search it on my phone- find the phone number.. OUT OF SERVICE. So it is 11:30 pm, i am tired, mad, alone, and have no way to check in. I find a security guard who sends me to another building up the road to check in. Back in my car…
4. At the other building the B team receptionist shows no empathy for my rough night. I am trying to give him my business (which pays his pay check). He explains that the reason the phone number did not work is because the phones are down. No apology. No answer when I ask why they wouldn’t change the ‘be back soon’ sign at the empty reception desk if they know their phones are down.
5. He checks me in and proceeds to show me 2 parking options-1. Pay $15 to park below the building; 2. Park in the dirt lot for free and walk a bit. I ask how to get help with my bags if I park in dirt lot. He says, “pull up and drop your bags”… to which I say, “but there is no staff in the building to take them to my room”… to which he says, “yeah, take the bags to your room, come back down, then park your car”.
6. I park in the dirt lot a 100 m away. Take all my bags with me. Walk alone in the dark at midnite to check in the room.
Service is your only job . I will take my business elsewhere next time
Not following through on reservation requests!
I have stayed at the Mosaic for the past 3 years for a dance competition with my daughter. I rarely make requests but I do ask to be placed on the main floor. My requests have always been granted since I book in October for a April competition.
There are 2 reasons I make this request: 1. People will less likely have loud parties on the first floor. 2. It’s easier to bring costumes and racnrolls to the convention centre and avoid waiting for the elevators. This time my request was not granted. I was told that despite making my reservation in October (6 months early), that other people who had not checked in yet had more rights than me and therefore there was no room on the first floor. I was even there on the first day of the competition so therefore rooms were being held for…
ice rooms, average hotel for above average price
NWe stayed here with family and friends for a dance competition weekend. I have stayed at other properties in the area, but this was my first time staying at Mosaic. The hotel is very difficult to find if you arrive after dark. The signage leading the way is small and unclear. Of course the building is signed – the sign works well to confirm that you are indeed at the Mosaic, but unfortunately does not actually help you to find the Mosaic as the sign is not visible from the road.
The rooms are nicer than the lobby would have you believe – the lobby is definitely not a gathering spot if you like to sit with friends before dinner or while the kids are in the pool. Rooms are clean, updated and spacious with a great kitchenette and a comfortable bed. The bathrooms are in desperate need of a lighting update – they are dark and dreary, but are clean (I think…). The lock on our door was broken and the iron did not work (replaced same day by attentive housekeeping staff). Our 1 bedroom suite faced the front entrance, but was still nice and quiet.
The check-in at the hotel is unfortunate – there is no access to pull up to the door to load your bags. I had to roll the luggage trolley out to my car (on a hill) to unpack some heavier items. The trolley would not stay still (it’s a hill!) and I struggled to “park” it against the car for support – not fun after a few hours drive when you just want to relax.
Front desk staff were always friendly and available – and patient with the many shuttle requests they must have dealt with throughout the weekend! We had a small maintenance request upon arrival and that was dealt with quickly and easily.
The pool/hot tub area is by far the best in the Blue Mountain area. Even still, this hotel is very over priced, but so are all of the properties in this area that is way over-hyped for what it is: a short walk around a small village, some over priced meals and a fun roller coaster. It is strange in such a “resort’ area that parking is $15/night – or you may park for free at an unpaved lot that is an unreasonable distance from this $300/night hotel. Last item: paid wifi? This is the best way to make your hotel look sub par when it comes to amenities. I cannot remember the last time I paid for hotel wi-fi at any level, in any country.
Overall the stay at Mosaic was fine, but when we attend another competition in this area, I will likely look into renting a private condo rather than
