Good Location, Great Tours, No Pressure
My husband and I stayed at Pono Kai Resort for a week in May. They are within easy walking distance to downtown Kapa’a, shops and restaurants. They have an island orientation of Kaua’i twice a week that is super informative about tours and events. Even though they are a timeshare, they are very low pressure, which is refreshing. The concierge is extremely helpful and everyone is welcoming and friendly. We stayed in Building C, which faces the ocean with a good view. Some of the other buildings are not located with views of the ocean. Kapa’a is a great location on the east side of the island with an easy drive to just about everywhere. I would stay at Pono Kai again.
Nice resort in Kapaa town
Have stayed at the Pono Kai resort twice now and both stays were very nice. The pool and hot tub are conveniently located and the resort also has tennis courts, putting greens, workout room, and is on the walking trail with the beach across. Other than the roosters crowing early each morning, the resort was very relaxing. Very easy walk to Kapaa town.
B108 - newly renovated 2 bedroom waterfront condo was beautiful
My husband and I just returned home from a 9 night stay at Pono Kai Resort in Kapaa, Kauai. The manager, Dawn, was extremely helpful and nice – as were all the staff onsite. The grounds were beautifully landscaped and maintained and our unit (B108) was spacious and newly renovated with a breathtaking view of the morning sunrise over the water. We would definitely choose Pono Kai again for the quality of the resort, location on the island, and customer service. Thank you for making this trip magical for us, Dawn! Sincerely, Tanya and Bennie Langley
Beautiful ocean view
We enjoyed our stay at the Pono Kai resort. The condo was clean and comfortable and close to everything. It’s not the Ritz but it was nice enough for us! The grounds are beautifully kept and the staff are friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub nightly. The fully stocked kitchen allowed us to cook our breakfast and prepare a picnic lunch daily before we headed out to explore the island. The ocean is right in front of the condos and the view is beautiful. There is a nice bike path that travels for approximately 4 miles along the coast and the bike rentals are right next to Pono Kai and are very inexpensive to rent. We had such a nice time visiting Kauai and the Pono Kai is a great place to stay.
Great view & convenient location
We stayed 7 nights at Pono Kai Resort. Our unit was booked through VRBO, but many units are available directly with Pono Kai. We found the view spectacular and the location centrally located in Kapaa. We hope to stay at this property again and recommend others to give it a try. There are a lot of units on this property to choose from. I would not recommend this to anyone who is looking for luxury, but the property is well kept. We used Pono Kai as a base to go out exploring around Kauai and were very pleased with our overall experience at Pono Kai.
Location, Location, Location
Pono Kai Resort is ideally located and is right on an excellent beach and a few minutes walk to town. The property has a large pool and hot tub and offers free use of bocci ball, croquet, putting green, and tennis. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful and a concierge is located in the lobby to help with booking activities. Guests can rent snorkel equipment, beach chairs, etc. from a concession in the lobby. Pool towels are available from Housekeeping services.
The grounds are beautifully maintained and there are numerous outdoor propane grills throughout the property. And if all this isn’t enough to keep one happy — a small herb garden has been planted and guests are encouraged to pick samples.
A well-equipped bike rental is practically out the back door near the Ono Family Restaurant (good eats & large portions!). Within a minute after renting wheels, you’re on a paved pathway that parallels the ocean for about 6 miles (one way). It is an ideal route for spectacular scenery, picnicking, swimming, and whale watching.
The condo was well furnished and comfortable. If you’re a coffee drinker, you may wish to bring a pound or so of ground coffee with you. Complimentary coffee is only provided for one pot. Food is quite pricey both at the markets (Safeway & Foodland are nearby — as well as Starbuck’s) and in the restaurants — we brought snacks (nuts, Oreos, etc.) with us along with the coffee.
All in all, we found Pono Kai Resort to be excellent even though the condo needed some attention. It is certainly a place we’d return to.
