Not the best location for skiing
We’ve just come back from staying in the Alpine Hotel for a skiing holiday. The hotel accommodation was ok there were 5 of us so a little crowded in the 2 bedroomed accommodation, so much cupboard space but not enough bedding and utensils for cooking but the staff were good and very helpful. The pool and sauna were always very crowded so couldn’t relax after a hard day skiing.
The hotel was too far from the resorts. and from the nearest shops. You’re in the middle of nowhere on the flatlands on the main road. You need a car to do anything. Forget the ski hire at the hotel it’s cheaper on the web plenty of local ski hire shops in Sell am See and Kaprun.
The best skiing is Kaprun on the Kitzsteinberg glacier loads of skiing for all standard levels.

CLC Alpine Centre
You really do need a car/motorcycle if you are staying at this resort but it is a good centre if you are wanting to see this part of Austria.
The property itself is ready for refurbishment and there are signs that it is a bit tired. The restaurant is adequate but the food is not gourmet standard if that is what you are expecting.
The rooms are adequate in size and well maintained and from the photo attached, you will understand why all official photos miss the immediate view (an industrial estate) and focus upon the far distant snow-covered peaks.
The Alpine Centre is off the main Zell am See to Saalfelden road and road noise is intrusive.
If you want Alpine meadow silence this will disappoint as if you open your balcony door/windows you cannot escape road noise. The staff are exceptional and cannot be praised enough.
What is good about this place is that the focus is upon helping you enjoy your stay and not the usual routine of CLC staff wanting to become your best friend and trying to upsell your membership. Zell am See central is not a joy but there are places around the lake that can be and if you are prepared to venture further afield, the area has much to offer in natural beauty.
If you are a CLC member this resort is worth a visit but don’t go expecting fresh air and tranquillity in the resort itself – you will be disappointed.

Traditional wooden big house
When we arrived in the Alpine Centre it looked like a very boring place…wrong!We went inside where the office was.
Staff were dressed in traditional Austrian clothing.T hey showed us the room with very high standard English. The room was a bit disappointing as there was a pull out bed in the leaving room going over a little table. Let’s get back to the good parts! The two other rooms were lovely, so was the toilet.
The toilet was clean so you won’t be angry that you can’t sit on the toilet seat, or the shower is too disgusting to put your feet in it. The swimming pool was big, with some relaxing chairs kind of things. Next to the swimming pool was a sauna that was crowded with people.

I wouldn’t mind coming back to Club La Costa Alpine Centre.
never had to use taxi’s so much!
We went to Austria for a week of skiing and I’m afraid to say that club la costa’s alpine centre was very disappointing. The hotel was in the middle of nowhere, which was impractical due to the fact we were self-catering and the nearest shop was a 20-minute taxi drive away.
We had to plan our whole holiday around taxi rides to and from the resorts and shops.
The staff on the other hand, where very helpful and did all they could to make our stay enjoyable. The rooms where average size, with a small kitchen- but comfortable and clean.
More ups than downs
As seems to be the case with all Club la Costa properties, this is a mixture of ups and downs. Let’s start with the downs:
1) In typical CLC style, they seem to have chosen the location on the basis of land prices rather than any customer-focused considerations. It’s partway between Saalfelden and Zell am See – which is OK – but some distance from anything resembling amenities.. You’ll definitely need a car, or at least cycles if you’re going to stay here.
2) The building is cunningly designed so that all the apartments on one side have a view of the car park and a whole lot of large trees. And on the other side, the first thing to greet the eye is a small industrial estate.
But now the ups:
1) If you’re lucky enough to get an apartment on the non-car park side, you can sit on your balcony so the balustrade obscures the industrial estate and, on a clear day, the view down the valley to the snow-capped Kitzsteinhorn (3,200m) at the far end is stunning.
2) The apartments, if ours was anything to go by, are generously proportioned, well equipped and meticulously maintained.
3) The staff are great…unfailingly friendly and genuinely helpful. They give the place a very good atmosphere.
So, all in all, so long as you have some means of transportation, it’s a decent base for exploring a very lovely area in the summer months. Or, presumably, for using Zell am See/Kaprun’s extensive winter sports facilities during the snowy part of the year.
