Do not waste your money here!!!
We checked in for a week stay, Saturday to Saturday. We booked this resort through Sears Vacation. The day we got here the resort itself looked great and nice. Very big and many pools. The young man working the front desk was great and able to get us on the 1st floor. I would love to say that this was one of many things that was great about this resort but I can not. This was the only thing that was good about this resort.
We got to our room and our bed was so hard. There was no give to the bed at all. By Wednesday morning our backs hurt so bad from the bed that we ended sleeping on the couch and love seat. We notified the hotel and they brought us another mattress that had a pillow top on it. Yet again this mattress was hard and we could not sleep yet again and we were out on the couch.
The bedroom is backed up to the mini-golf course. This is not a big deal because the course closes at 11pm so the noise is done and over. However, there are lights on all night and shines through the windows all night. There are vertical blinds on the window however those do nothing for these lights. With the blinds closed it seems like daytime in there. It is much darker in the living room than in the bedroom. The living room has blackout curtains on it but not the bedroom. This makes no sense to me.
There is a dresser in the closet. I opened the top drawer and the dresser fell over on me. They try to play it off that we had to much stuff in the top drawer but that was not the case at all. I had socks and undershirts in there. They had the dresser mounted to the wall by a nail that was put through the back of the dresser which was that very flimsy material, not plywood.
When I called to talk with a manager about these problems I was told he was in a meeting that it was going have to wait. That made me a little more upset. I think that if you had a dresser fall on someone you would do something about it right away. I had to wait for about 30 – 45 minutes before a manager showed up.
The only thing that was doe for us was, a new mattress that still was terrible, $50 in dinner coupons to their restaurant (Drafts Sports bar and grill – see my review on that), paid for a broken souvenir (which does not replace the one I got 2 hours from here) & they renailed the dresser into the wall.
After all this, I will never stay at a Westgate again. I would never recommend this place to family or friends. We also checked out 2 days early and paid for a hotel because the beds are so bad.
Great value but avoid scam
We stayed here for three nights and it is a very nice place for the money we spent (less than 100 dollars per night in March). It is clean, has good pools, is calm and suits kids perfect. The kitchen is fully equipped and we could easily stay here at least a week.
BUT, if you choose to stay at this place then at all costs avoid the “Welcoming package”.
We passed by the concierge in another errand and were then asked if we had received our welcoming package? No, we hadn’t. The package would be breakfast or lunch and also a gift voucher of 50 dollars plus 50 dollars cash. The lunch, which we opted for, would be served at a nearby resort at a nice BBQ buffet. That obviously sounds too good to be true and of course it was. We only had to listen to a 90 minutes presentation of said resort. Having two kids we thought that would be a good idea as they were promised entertainment during the 90 minutes presentation. So we went off to the lunch at 12 o’clock. On arrival, we learnt that to take part in the offer both adults had to present ID. So my wife had to turn around to get her ID at our hotel, a 20 minute drive.
When we finally arrived to the lunch the lunch turned out to be a breakfast that was almost finished. It was served in an extremely loud canteen. We declined the breakfast and explained that we were expecting lunch and that our children at this point were very hungry. The staff did not recognise the offer that we had been given at our home resort. And they said that we could have the lunch after the presentation. We were welcomed by a host that would present the resort. She spoke pretty poor English and given the noise in the canteen we hardly understood anything of the presentation.
Only at this point, it was made clear to us that the “Welcoming package” was actually a 90-minute timeshare presentation. At this time we thought we might as well sit through the presentation and let the kids enjoy the kids area which was nice. We were then given a drive around the resort. And when the 90 minutes were almost up we said to our host that we soon had to leave. She then got very upset and angry and rushed us back to the canteen where her boss and one other seller tried to get us to sign papers to buy a timeshare. We told them that we were not interested in timeshares and we were then asked “then what are you doing here?” I was also wondering that same thing. The staff then got quite rude. We finally got our 50 dollar gift voucher that could get us the lunch that we had been promised. We then had to remind the staff about the 50 dollar cash. This whole affair took us well over three hours in the middle of the day, more or less ruining this day of vacation for us. We will never stay at a Westgate owned hotel or resort again after this hostile experience.
What a Let Down!
Booked in the Westgate Blue Tree Resort for the last 3 days of my vacation, what a complete letdown!
Rooms smelled musty and old, carpet very dirty.
Main pool was closed for construction.
Had to pay for wifi!
Would never stay at this resort again!
The Best Part Of This "Resort" Was Checking Out!
I did an Interval Timeshare exchange via a certificate which cost $297.00 plus $59.00 for a non-member for Sunday May 15th-Sunday May 22, but didn’t check in until Tuesday May 17th at 0245.
The Security Guard that checked me in was polite and professional, but unfortunately, that was the best part of the stay.
Upon entering the room I was taken back by the horrendous odour of filthy carpet. The shower was absolutely disgusting as was the inside of the toilet.
The overall quality and upkeep of this “Suite” is clearly lacking, as seen in the paintwork and maintenance items. I located a roach on the kitchen counter the day before checkout. The inner pillowcase had dried blood stains on it.
I went to the front desk on the day before checkout and had the on-duty manager come to the room with another Security Guard in tow to witness my complaint.
She was polite and advised she would call me back later with a response, and upon doing so offered me a free dinner, however, I already had plans and couldn’t use the food certificate she offered at their on-site restaurant.
The items in this room are indicative of an overall problem and certainly aren’t the result of one poor cleaning.
