Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club Timeshare Termination

We stayed at this Marriott Vacation Club location for 7 nights in Poipu. We used points and paid cash combined. We have been Marriott members for over 25 years.

 

But it means nothing at this vacation club. Don’t expect anything but the worst room location and for sure you won’t get an interior view.

 

This beach club was maybe 50-60% full when we were there, very slow.

 

But we were told in less than 5 minutes at check-in that we were not entitled to an interior room when we asked. We travelled across the country to stay here, never again.

 

We couldn’t sleep as our room faced a parking lot and they were using our building for people who did the tour and received one free night stay.

 

 

People next to us partied all night and the resort had to repair issues in that villa the next day. Because of this, we would never ever consider buying into a Marriott Vacation Club.

For an honest review, let me begin with the positives… This property is beautifully situated on Poipu Beach, one of the best beaches in all of Hawaii. The two bedroom condo is clean and nicely appointed. The kitchen is large with seating for eight. The master is comfortable, the bathtub huge but the shower is very tiny! The second bedroom is spacious with a king size bed and pull out sofa. The exterior grounds are very nicely kept and clean and there are grills for use by guests. There is a nice bar with limited food items pool side. The pool is nice but a bit on the small side for the number of guests on property but the beach is great.

Now for the “not so” positives… We feel completely mislead! We booked a two bedroom ocean view villa months in advance at an upgraded price and we have a view of a bush and a parking lot!!! (See picture). We were given the option of moving one floor higher which if you look past the parking lot, through the power lines and over a rooftop you can get a slight glimpse of the ocean in the distance. “Ocean View”. We travel frequently, in fact, work in the travel industry and have stayed many places and price ranges and I don’t think I have ever been as disappointed as I am right now. Not because the property lacks anything to speak of, but because I feel like we got the bate and switch and that Marriott knowingly and intentionally misrepresented their product. (See other negative reviews, this is sadly a common issue)

We have been longtime Marriott Rewards members, loyal customers and have always enjoyed our stays. At some point during our visit, we will walk into the sales presentation, (which we were actually considering), and have to say No Thank you. Unfortunately, I feel that the trust has been broken and honour and integrity lacking. (Something I have not felt before).

Marriott has always been a great company with a good product but there are other great companies out there as well. I will choose to vote with my dollar and look elsewhere from this point forward.

Closing words of wisdom, this is a timeshare property, not a hotel. The rooms that are for “rent” are not the beautiful “ocean views” that you are spending thousands of dollars and travelling half way around the world for. The rooms for “rent” are the least desirable on the property… the ones that owners will not stay in. Marriott, you lost a sale by being misleading and just not being honest. What else are you hiding???? Sincerely, a very disappointed customer

4th and final visit. Like many non-owners, you get crappy “villa” overlooking back parking lot and the dumpsters. 3rd time this has happened to us. Just say upfront you won’t get a decent room even though you paid full price.

1st time here 4 years ago we had a decent “villa” 2nd floor, overlooking the interior courtyard. Was expecting an ocean view as paid for but wasn’t going to complain. We said to ourselves “at least we aren’t looking at the dumpsters and parking lot”

Little did we know that’s what we were going to get for the next 3 visits. Great beach, terrible “resort”. The only thing it has going for it is its right on Poipu Beach. What a terrible waste of a perfect location.

No, we aren’t owners, thank god, but are Platinum Marriott Rewards customers. Will stay elsewhere and have a better experience and drive to Poipu Beach and park in the parking lot we have been looking at for 3 years.

Thank god I didn’t waste my points staying here! I also love the “canned” responses from the management.

Believe me, they don’t care if you’re happy or not. Don’t be fooled. Once they have your money, they couldn’t give a crap if you don’t get a decent room.

I will be spending my points elsewhere. At least at the Marriott’s beach club in Lihue, you know what you are going to get.

I am heading back to Kauai in 2 weeks for a one month stay and am happy to say I won’t be staying here! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Poipu,.. Hate, hate, hate this place.

Again waste of a perfect location.

Maybe a mini hurricane can wipe this place out, not hurt anything else and something great can be built here that cares about its customers and members.

Even the members were complaining about the bad service, misleading bookings they were receiving!

I have not yet travelled to this hotel but booked it months ago as we will be in Kauai for my husband’s 50th birthday (August 13-17, 2015).

We came home to a voice mail message today to “confirm our reservation for an oceanview room and notify us that we may be in an “undesirable location”” at the resort (i.e, by the dumpster or parking lot).

My husband, the birthday boy, called for follow up and was told that because we are “renters” we have last priority on rooms, behind timeshare owners, etc. — even though we reserved a long time ago — because they are overbooked.

The hotel rep said we may have to “lean out the window or off the balcony to see a peek of the ocean”. What? Nobody bothered to tell us before today?

This is an expensive vacation. I would never have booked at this hotel in the first place if I had known — could have just extended our stay at another resort up in Princeville.

We travel often and are Marriott Rewards members, so we like to stay at Marriott when we can. Not anymore.

Beware if you are not a timeshare owner or Vacation Club member.

I will be looking for another option!

Worst of all, they only gave us a few days’ notices to explore other options before the penalty sets in.
