Crescent Resort on South Beach Timeshare Resort Complaints and Reviews
Cockroaches, leaking roof, dirty rugs, broken hair-dryer. Great location but a badly run outfit.
I was expecting quite a lot from the Crescent Resort when I first arrived. I had read so many good things about it on Trip Advisor that I decided to book it. I wasn’t expecting 5 star luxuries but I was expecting a clean, sanitary room.
Now to begin about our first nights stay. There was a big storm outside. As soon as we entered the room we noticed that the rug in the living area was filthy. It had a lot of food stains. We couldn’t get the TV in the bedroom to work and the hair dryer was broken. These were all small things so we were not too fussed initially. About 30 minutes later water started coming through the roof. There was a leak. We immediately went down to the girl at reception and she gave us a bucket and towels to soak up the water. There were no servicemen on duty. She informed us that all other rooms in the hotel were booked so she could not switch our rooms. We accepted this went out for dinner. When we came back from dinner we were dismayed to be welcomed by a cockroach running across the kitchen top. We trapped our radiation resistant friend under a glass for the night and in the morning we took him outside and set him free. At this stage, we were going to move to another hotel because we were no longer comfortable staying there. We had brought food with us and ended up throwing it all away because of the cockroach.
The next morning went down to reception and told the girl at reception everything that happened. She had not been informed by the girl on duty the night before of our issues. She said she would move us to a better suite the next day but that all rooms were taken at present. We had a decision to make and since the storm outside had stopped we thought we’d give the hotel one more chance and figured it could just be bad luck. The next day we went to the same lady at reception and asked could we be moved to a different room now and she said she would just refund us the resort fee instead. Clearly, she was not going to move us, despite saying she would the previous day, but we’d had no other issues in the interim and decided to go for it. We also felt that a resort fee refund would be adequate for our first nights’ discomfort.
The rest of our stay was Ok without any major issues. We stayed for 5 nights in total. Jacques at reception is extremely helpful and friendly. I felt confident when I was dealing with him that I was receiving good advice and that if we had an issue he would be sure to act upon it.
The day we were checking out we spoke to Jacques about our first-night woes and he arranged that we would get a full refund for our first nights stay instead of the resort fee. We agreed to this and felt it was very fair. That was November 4th. I didn’t receive the refund on my Credit Card until December 28th. I rang quite a few times to be told it was had been sent and should arrive within 7-12 working days. Eventually, on 19th of December, I rang and they told me there was an issue with the refund and they are working on a resolution. It would have been nice if they had simply told me this to begin with. I had also sent two emails to which I got no reply.
Valet service is awful too. One time I was waiting 30 minutes for my car. I gave them tips reluctantly. I really felt they didn’t deserve them though.
One plus is that the bed sheets were spotless and it was one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in.
I don’t like giving anywhere a bad review on Trip Advisor; however, I feel all these things need to be pointed out. I love Miami but won’t be going back to the Crescent Resort again and anyone else reading this should probably think twice about it. It’s a pity because location wise it is great and overlooking the beach. If it was only run a little bit better and just a bit more money invested in its upkeep and running then it would be a sweet spot.
Slimey timeshare sales people
Just got back from South Beach. The Crescent Resort is in a great location on Ocean Drive. The Small Suites are good.
Problems: This hotel is being sold as Time Shares. The Time Share Sales People are rude, arrogant and pushy. There is a huge lack of respect for the individuals who paid to stay there. Day or Night we could never use the elevator (we were on the 4th floor) as it was always crowded with the Salespeople and their potential buyers. We complained to the desk about being harassed every time we entered the hotel.
Their answer was that they had no control over the Timeshare part of the business. As we all know that is Bull.
Any respectable business would not allow their paying customers to be accosted on a regular basis.
The hotel overall is not a resort:
No cleaning of the rooms( unless you pay $28.00).
Filthy deck area, porch and stairwell.
Will not go back.
Not so fabulous
While the location of the Crescent Resort is great (right on Ocean Drive, overlooking the beach), the hotel left something to be desired.
The hotel was under minor renovations, but it could use some major changes.
The rooms were not clean, which was the biggest problem.
The floors and furniture were gross, as were the windows. Also, there was a lack of shelf space/hooks.
There was no place to put toiletries and makeup in the bathroom or to even hang a towel!
Furthermore, the hotel boasted a workout facility and in-hotel restaurant.
In reality, the workout facility was not functional because it was used as a storage facility and there was no restaurant. On a positive note, the hotel staff was very friendly.
Going downhill fast
I first stayed at the Crescent in November 2004 when it was run by Hilton Resorts.
Much has changed since my last visit…none of it positive. The hotel is under new management, and unfortunately, has not been kept up well. The room, while still spacious, simply wasn’t clean. The area carpet was dirty and matted, and the furniture upholstery was stained and worn out. The bed linens provided a full body exfoliation because they were so coarse and rough. The pillows were awful and the duvet didn’t even have a cover on it! The bathroom had stains from previous guests that had not been cleaned. The hallway carpets were very dirty and obviously had not been cleaned in a very long time.
The hotel leases rooms on the fourth floor to a company that sells timeshare. There is a constant stream of people in the small lobby with many salespeople hawking the condos. They tie up the elevator and are generally annoying. There is also a tour company that leases space on the front terrace attempting to lure passersby into buying trips to the Everglades, etc.
They are staffed by a rowdy group of young adults (19-22) and their constant circus-barking makes it unable to sit on the terrace and enjoy the passing scene.
This once nice hotel is no longer worth the money or effort.
