This is a small gated resort with a key pad entry system.
There are approximately 60 apartments on the site, 16 privately owned, 4 owned by Club La Costa and the remainder owned and rented under the old style time share system of the same week in the same apartment year upon year.
We stayed in a one bed CLC apartment and found it to be more than adequate for our needs if perhaps a little dated. Two adults with two children could easily be accommodated whether self catering or eating out. The resort has well looked after gardens and a newly refurbished pool plus a small children’s pool.
Unfortunately, there is very little on site for the little ones other than the pool.
What is fortunate however is the proximity to the beach (two minutes walk), a supermarket and all of the shops and restaurants that you could wish possibly for. There is a clubhouse/snack bar on the resort (Danny’s Bar) which has small variety of English dishes to choose from, the prices are very reasonable and the portions good.
Although Danny does his best to make everyone welcome and offers some very reasonable ‘meal deals’ the bar suffers a little from poor patronage; the private owners only seem to make use of the BBQ area and most of the ‘timeshare‘ members only appear during happy hour.
There is free Wi-Fi but the reception can be a bit hit and miss at times.
Having said this I would still recommend a stay at this resort given its proximity to everything else.
We travelled here with our friends who are CLC members.
We arrived late about 10pm.
At reception, we were asked to pay 60 euros for deposit of apartment, plus 30 euros for utilities. Another 10 euros for hire of sunbed mattresses.
The ‘clubhouse’ was shut, so we had to find somewhere for a drink. There are a lot of different apartments here. CLC have 6, About 40 are club members and about 16 are privately owned. The resort itself is well presented with a nice pool and nice gardens.
The apartment we had was a bit tired but clean. I think it needed a bit of an upgrade. A lot of members and owners seemed to have problems with a man who previously owned the site.
He still owns the old reception and apparently won’t sell to the members.
Danny’s Bar/clubhouse offers good food at reasonable prices with specials. Danny was pleasant and made us welcome. A lot of people who moaned but didn’t seem to support him.
Entertainment was sporadic.
There was a big plus that there is a Spar supermarket very near and the position of the resort was excellent.
Very near shops, restaurants, bus stop and beach. I certainly would recommend the resort and hope that things improve because we had a good time. if any questions, please ask.
We have just returned from a two week stay (Aug-Sept) at The Diamond Club Calypso resort, (timeshare exchange) in Puerto Del Carmen in Lanzarote. This is a small resort of approximately 40 apartments. Two storey high, 3/4 star, built in u shape around gardens and two pools, kiddy pool and main pool, (quite deep). Along the length of the pool area is a bar with balcony & sitting area with tables & chairs, serving drinks and food every day. Two small pool tables, children’s play area and small football area.
This is our first stay at this complex. We stopped in a one bedroom apartment overlooking the garden area, with the pools to our right. The trees were lit with rope lighting around them and the pool lights changed colour, so looked pretty at night time.
All apartments faced the gardens & pools.
Old style apartments renovated with tasteful decor, new kitchen, new bathroom, comfortable beds, plenty of wardrobe space, flat screen television, good size fridge freezer, good quiet fans (no air con). Patio table & chairs & umbrella. Nice & comfortable.
The two ladies in reception (first ground floor apartment as you enter complex) were very pleasant & helpful. There was a charge of 5 Euros a week for the safe, 7 Euros a weeks for the sunbed cushions (we had thick blue ones, but some people had thin multicoloured ones which were not as good), 15 Euro per week service charge for our 1 bedroom apartment. Free wifi. Can hire pool towels etc. Free parking on the roads. All the staff were very nice.
It is a safe, gated complex with keypad opening system. Well, position off a quiet side road, (called Av. Italia), to the main Av.del las Playas, where all the restaurants & shops are. Close to the beach. The reasonable price, well stocked spar shop is just round the corner, 3-5 mins walk. There’s a small Chinese restaurant 2-3 mins walk along the road, (the food was lovely). Along the Av. del las Playas was a brilliant curry house, (on the sea side) called Fazzs, one of the best curries we’ve had.
Also we had an excellent steak at The Cafe OLa, brilliant Moroccan atmosphere, both well worthing trying. A Lot of restaurants/bars / shops along this long walkway. There is a market at the harbour on Friday. The water bus goes from harbour every one & half hours to next little harbour at Puerto Calero, about 20 mins away, which was nice, you can either walk back along the cliffs or catch the water bus.
I liked this complex, it felt comfortable & relaxing, but as it is small and as anywhere it all depends on the people staying there and how considerate they are. It only took 1 large unruly family to ruin a peaceful relaxing area.
The other thing I did not like, was because the bar ran the whole length of the pool area and there were lots of people, who probably just come on holiday to sit at the bar, eat & drink all holiday, watched you sunbathing and swimming. It’s normal to people watch, but I didn’t like it, it took your privacy away and it was quite noisy at times.
There was entertainment one evening at the barbeque with a male singer who was good.
At the far end of the complex some apartments have been sold, so there are residents living there, did not bother us, but a bit strange, when they start using the bars barbecue area to cook there own food on & there’s smoke all round the pool area, that’s not right. One had an occasional barking dog (didn’t come on complex) & there are a few friendly cats.
Lanzarote is a barren island, lots of volcanos, nice around the coastal tourist areas. We did not go on any trips this time as we’ve done them all been before, the fire mountain at Timanfaya & the Sunday market at Teguise are probably the best trips. If you visit in May the Iron Man tournament is on every year.
We had a great holiday, the weather was fantastic (hardly any wind, which is usual for Lanzarote as you usually get sand blasted on the beach, but it was calm). The beaches are clean & the sea was nice, but you have to pick the right part as there’s a lot of rocks.
We hired bikes & cycled up to the airport to watch the planes, land over your head, something you don’t see every day, quite exciting, LOL. Its great for cycling as its flat. We cycled to Arrecife, it’s a wide paved walkway all along the coast to the Castillo San Cabriel, (fortress & Cannons) in Arrecife, with bars & restaurants scattered along the way.
Not 4 star more like 1 star
The facilities at Diamond Club Calypso were minimal.
The bar is like a shed with cheap plastic furniture, The food looked like it had come straight out of the freezer and would be served in a roadside cafe. The pool looked green as if it was full of algae, and apart from the rooms, those were the facilities on offer.
The decor in the apartment was clean enough that looked like it was from the 1980s and hadn’t been changed. It was a very long walk to a beach with Loungers, although there were rocky beaches nearby. Overall the place was hugely disappointing and I would not recommend anyone waste a week holiday there.
Pool and bar area very dirty.
Great location. We have spent many a happy hour at the pool bar over the years. However, the most recent trip left us disappointed in the upkeep and level of cleanliness. The pool is so dirty I don’t want my kids to play in it. Calypso please clean up your act!!!
