We stayed at Trenython Manor in Cornwall for a week under our CLC membership
When we originally signed up January 2017 we were shown around some premier lodges at Trenython
We did ask if we could bring our dogs and told they do have some dog friendly lodges
So we booked one using 1100 points
We were told it’s one of their standard older lodges
What we weren’t told is they are 30 plus years old Also they don’t have the following:
The bed was very uncomfortable we had to ask for a mattress topper
Decent China and cutlery
There wasn’t even a pan big enough to roast a joint off meat in
Instead they have a very small bath a tiny shower the cheapest toilet seat ( that moves ) we have ever seen
Although the decoration was ok we really are very disappointed
We contacted member services who told us “their website shows what you get” My partner was not directed to look at their website when she booked it
Also the agent became very condescending we said this to her and her answer “ I don’t think I am”
So in the end I sent an email to the M.D. of CLC on Tuesday followed by two more emails and as of writing this ( Friday evening ) had no reply or acknowledgement
We actually worked it out when we add in the maintenance charge a weeks break has cost around £2000.00 for what we believe is more like Butlins not the CLC standard we were shown
So if your ever considering joining CLC be very careful
Very Poor Experience and False Advertising
I booked in to Trenython Manor having seen a link online for a swim lunch deal. On arrival, I was told that the price was nearly double. As I had my mother visiting and an increasingly upset toddler I paid it fully expecting that the manager would see that they had advertised at a lower price and refund me the difference. She not only refused to do so but was very rude. This ruined what should have been an enjoyable afternoon, for the sake of a few quid. Needless to say, we didn’t stay on for coffee and cake and won’t be returning.
We went to Trenython Manor for lunch and it was so horrid that we will not be going back and cannot recommend it to anyone.
Frozen and microwaved jacket spud with that pale plastic cheese with absolutely no flavour at all and a very expensive side salad with no dressing but pesto dripped all over it. My partner had a gammon steak and chips which would probably have been adequate in a down market pub not known for its food but certainly not at this price in this place. These two meals with half a pint of cider and a lime juice came to over £25.
Pull your socks up Trenython!
Haven’t travelled here yet but warning for others regarding lodge bookings
Myself and three of my closest friends have planned a well earned weekend to Cornwall at the end Sept in part to celebrate one our birthdays. I did some thorough research into good lodges to stay in including looking at company website info and other traveller reviews and Trenython Manor superior lodges seemed a good choice.
A major influence in our choice was the potential of having our own hot tub.
The website states that some superior lodges come with these, and many travellers comments back this up, so upon booking (directly with the venue, not through a third party) back in March, I entered a special request for a hot tub. As the time of our trip is approaching today I realised I had not had a responses so to be sure, I called up the hotel to repeat my request, only to be told that lodges with hot tubs are only available to ‘club members’ – part of a timeshare scheme – there is absolutely no mention of this on the website and indeed the confirmation email post booking states again that some superior lodges come with whirlpool bath.
I have been categorically told today that we will not get a lodge with a tub and that until a manager is available I cannot even confirm if they will be willing to refund our deposit should we cancel. Really not impressed – so message to people thinking about booking – if you are looking for a hot tub you need to be a timeshare member, and despite misleading information to the contrary, you will not receive any response to special requests unless you chase up the hotel directly as they seem not to pick these up on the booking request.
Shocking + dissapointing weekend
After looking forward to a relaxing weekend away with the missus + my daughter. I was disappointed from the moment I checked in first of all to find we had been put on the 2nd floor + that there was no lift.
This annoyed me because I’d phoned up prior to booking to inform them we had a 1 year old child +’that we was bringing our own travel cot. None of this information was given to us on the phone nor was it written anywhere on the website. Also during the initial conversation we clearly stated that we planned to take our 1year old swimming during our stay + specifically asked if the pool was suitable for babies to which we was told yes of course only to find we had to come out of the hotel in the freezing cold + walk around the side of the hotel to gain access to the pool + after getting out after 20 mins because the pool was too cold for the baby + having to get changed in a freezing cold changing room with no facilities for babies other than an old changing mat shoved behind the door as you could imagine this was also very disappointing for us + not a good start to a weekend break away.
After a tiring day, we was pleased to find out we could order a take away to our room from reception so we did sausage + chips for me +the baby + salad. +chips for the missus after not waiting long we had a phone call to collect our takeaway from the restaurant downstairs. I went to collect it to get back to the room to find soggy chips in brown boxes with no cutlery or salt, pepper or sauce! So off I went back down the 3 flights of stairs to get them myself yet again very disappointed with the meal + the service.
Spent the rest of the evening cooped up in a small room with to much furniture with a sliding door into next doors room which was also occupied by guests so we felt the need to whisper as we could hear their every move and getting into bed to realise there was no remote for the tv + the bedside lamps didn’t work.
The bed was large + comfy so we had a good nights sleep only to be woken by next doors alarm, went down to breakfast after waiting 40 mins for an iron + ironing board from reception.
The dining room looked nice + there was a good selection for breakfast just a shame it was ruined by being kept Luke warm in steam pots which made it all soggy.
Overall the service was good but after asking for a high chair for our baby the waiter brought it to us with last nights food all over it + being served tea in a tea-stained + chipped old teapot this just put the icing on the cake for us so we went back to our room packed our bags + checked out a day early as it didn’t make sense to spend any more money at the hotel so we went + booked in a Premier Inn for a night + can safely say we were a lot more satisfied with our £35 a night room than we were with Trenython Manor hotel for £70 a night which was purchased cheaply on the last minute booking website we are so glad we didn’t pay full price.
We certainly won’t be returning to Trenython Manor hotel+spa and most definitely wouldn’t recommend it to anybody
Trenython Manor is old and dated the staff were lovely but beware of CLCstaff they hound you till you sign up for there timeshare would advise anybody to stay away from this scam it spoils a great time in Cornwall
Over-priced, outdated accommodation, felt like dog ownership, vs CLC membership, make us second-class citizens
Went for a new years break.
Main accommodation in the public areas is very nice – lovely old panelled dining room and a good space for the new years dancing. The meal was fine although menu options would have been nice – not everyone loves venison and lamb, do they??
However, this didn’t compensate for the bedroom, which was in one of the so-called ‘lodges’.
This was so disappointing in every regard. I travel a lot on business which skews your standards but even cheaper hotels now prioritise decent beds. This one was truly awful – a hard old mattress with cheap synthetic pillows.
The place is best summed up as tatty, from the paint on the outside door to the furnishings. The bathroom is circa 1980 and the ‘shower’ is an insult to other things called showers – a feeble drizzle so slight I could simply not wash my hair under it. Nowhere to put your wet towels, all heaters being electric and therefore not coverable. Come on CLC, is this really the best you can do?
MOST of all though – we found my brother and his wife, who had booked the weekend, had a hamper in their lodge, so we called down to reception: ‘You’re not a member, you can’t have a hamper’. Us: ‘Well, we’re miles from the nearest supermarket and its new years and we have no milk or tea’. Them: ‘You’re not entitled to a hamper – you’re a guest.’ (Yes, really). After some persuasion, they eventually sent up tea bags eggs bread and milk – cost c £3.00. Cost of lost business for not being far-sighted enough to bless us all with some basics? c£3000.00 – we will avoid all CLC destinations in future.
We were initially offered Room 209 which was marginally larger than a rabbit hutch and certainly not big enough for a week’s stay. Had a porthole window with only a view of scaffolding and the sky and the bathroom had no shower with only a wand! On complaining to CLC, we were moved to Room 208 which was 50% bigger, but still no view and with the scaffolding outside. No lift or air conditioning in the place and the stairways and corridors up to the second floor are in dire need of painting and renovating.
The place is extremely tired with old bed linen and throws and a very uncomfortable bed which was two singles shoved together.
I expected my bed linen to be changed at least 3 times in a week but sadly no chance! No nice toiletries in the bathroom, just dispensers filled with gel – luckily I took my own. There is no atmosphere or soul to the place and like every CLC Resort, it’s out of the way. First time I have ever left a holiday early and so glad to be back home.
Don’t even contemplate it.
