We exchanged our timeshare for a week at Brockwood Hall – what a mistake!! We departed after just 2 nights. We had been allocated the Brotherswater Lodge, the only one it seemed with the balcony facing directly into the woods, top lights needed at all time in the lodge would have been nice to have a few lamps to soften lighting, but nothing like that, very sparse and basic.
But wait for it – quick look round the unit and what did we find – PUBIC HAIRS in the shower – gross!!! Did not instil us with confidence regarding the cleanliness of the place.
Nearest place to find a shop is Millom, staff in the local Tesco were nicer than those at Brockwood.
Every time I went to reception there was never anyone there – Why? – because they were always outside smoking. The staff can see who comes to reception through a patterned glass door that leads outside to their “smoking area”, they then proceed to leave their ciggie in the ashtray, come straight through to reception breathing smoke all over you!! Lovely !!
Went to reception 1.30pm on Sunday, usually, wait for staff, wanted to double check time for lunch. The receptionist told me lunch finished at 2pm. I said I was nipping back to the lodge and would be back in 10 minutes which we were, she said that would be fine. My husband went in 10 minutes later to get the menus and was told by the young male receptionist that lunch was no longer being served!
Unbelievable – I went in and had the usual wait and the same male receptionist came from the back door – I asked again what time lunch was served, he reiterated 12-2pm, then added chef had packed up early today as they weren’t busy. I was aghast and told him so. He then proceeded to be really obnoxious towards me. “What do you want me to do, do you want to me go and cook you something then?”. I can’t portray his attitude by just typing. He shrugged his shoulders and started muttering and tutting at me. I pointed out that it was still only 1.50pm by this time, again a shrug of the shoulders. I said it was unacceptable and his attitude to me was totally unacceptable. What sort of customer care was he portraying? Zero.
The next day I went back to reception to ask for a map of the area (again a wait for the smokers!) No free maps, had to buy a book instead, no big deal. But just no help from reception staff at all, no suggestions, nothing at all.
Decided there and then, didn’t want to stay in such a hostile environment so decided to go home – a 5 hour journey I hasten to add.
On departure I went in and was presented with electricity bill – £12.66, which was ok until I got home and realised that had been charged from Friday – I rang Brockwood and said was not arriving till Saturday evening. So the automatic system of check in check out that the duty manager has quoted on the previous comment is clearly unreliable.
Reception didn’t ask why I was checking out after only 2 nights, had everything been ok?, they said absolutely nothing. Gave me the bill, took my key and that was that!
Was never so relieved to leave a place. Would never return.
I am sure that Mr Duty Manager will no doubt be posting a reply to this and covering everything with reasons why but take my word for it – it is not worth a visit!
